This is all that's posted by the Kyiv Independent, but following it through to the European Council page and looking through the list revealed the following PDF: https://hudoc.echr.coe.int/app/conversion/pdf/?library=ECHR&id=003-7277548-9913621&filename=Decision%20of%20the%20Court%20on%20requests%20for%20interim%20measures%20in%20individual%20applications%20concerning%20Russian%20military%20operations%20on%20Ukrainian%20territory.pdf

To summarize:

- New applications to the European Council of Human Rights concerning Ukraine will be set aside to be examined at a later date (save for interim measures, which are ostensibly done only on an exceptional basis when applicants "would otherwise face a real risk of serious and irreversible harm.").

- The 4-to-6 month time limit for ongoing cases will not be extended in general; however, time compliance will be assessed in light of the ongoing military attack. In light of this, the time limits on cases pending will be suspended until further notice.

- If a case file can be decided and judged, the parties involved will nonetheless *not* be informed until further notice; these judgments will also not be publicly published.

- Referrals to the Grand Chamber will not have a general extension of the 3-month time limit.

- Outgoing correspondence will be sent only for the purpose of informing parties involved in cases before the Council. [In light of the prior point about decisions and judgements not being communicated, such correspondence must therefore be limited.]

The most recent release regarding this measure indicates that, as of the end of March, these measures with regards to Ukraine remain unchanged: https://hudoc.echr.coe.int/app/conversion/pdf/?library=ECHR&id=003-7299129-9951571&filename=Measures%20in%20cases%20concerning%20Ukraine%20remain%20unchanged.pdf

Note that this petition was granted back at the beginning of March, right about the time where initial media attention on Ukraine was riding high on their counterattack, and their successes against Russia's invaders were being repeated far and wide to great applause.

My question is this: why would the 'good guys' (since that's the binary largely impressed upon the West: "Ukraine good, Russia bad", when my general opinion is "both sides suck, why should we get involved if we're not going to actually declare war legitimately?") request that human rights cases involving them be suspended on an indefinite basis?

Good to hear that it’s now OFFICIAL that Ukraine can abuse and torture Russians and anyone else at will, and be PROTECTED by the Neocons and their puppet media.

At least that’s how I read it.

Makes sense now. I was wondering why they didn’t give a crap regarding the alleged* Ukrainian torturing of Russian POWs that was shown in the videos.

*alleged to me, as I don’t have links to the videos, but I’m sure others have them.

Self-determination on tactics for some countries but not all?

Sounds like Neocon 101.

Yep. It’s apparent they think that all animals are equal, it’s just some are more equal than others ala Animal Farm in their worldview.

Complete whataboutery from you, as usual.

One of the Brits who has been sentenced to death by a kangaroo court in the Russian sponsored fake administration in Donbas, has lived there for years, is married to a Ukrainian, and footage of his regularised sign-up to the military before this Special Military Operation is widely available. No evidence seems to have been presented to the effect that he even killed anybody. Yet he’s been sentenced to death for being a mercenary despite even Russia having (and showing!) the proof that he wasn’t a merc. Russian TV has shown that guy - he’s definitely been beaten in captivity. So a POW under Russian guard has been tortured, and Russia’s not ashamed to show it.

Russian TV and the separatists in Kherson also made absolutely no apology for showing a civilian male being tortured with electric shocks - on camera.

There’s quite a difference between hearsay allegations of torture that need to be investigated, which can be quite difficult to do... and the instigators of torture actively showing off the results of the torture they have performed, where they gift the prosecutors the evidence.

There’s an alleged intercept phone call between an alleged Russian soldier and his wife, where two particularly horrific forms of torture were explained. Neither would look out of place in Hellraiser’s Cenobite hell.

For all I know, he’s actually a Uke and the phone call was staged, and this didn’t happen at all. But there have been other instances where similar phone intercepts have been investigated and the people INSIDE RUSSIA who were alleged to have been in receipt of those calls CONFIRMED it was them on the line and they DID have that conversation.

So, if that happened with any torture conversation, you effectively have not just an admission from a Russian soldier that an incident of torture took place, by the person who committed it, but you often have a detailed explanation of who the prisoner was, why the torture was allowed to happen to the prisoner, and even how the torture was defined - some Russians have said there are FSB playbooks covering different forms.

Firstly - the reason for the suspension is https://www.rferl.org/a/russian-duma-votes-to-quit-european-court-human-rights/31887853.html — Russia to quite the ECHR

Secondly, what you wrote does not in any way indicate that Ukraine requested this to be suspended.

Thirdly, we are supporting Ukraine because
1. Putin invaded them
2. This is just the latest of Putin’s aims to recreate the Tsarist empire - after Georgia, Ukraine (2014)
3. If we don’t supply the Ukrainians with means to fight Russia, then in a few years, Putin would threaten a wider war. Think of this as 1938 and the Munich compromise

Well, I guess you can take that conclusion to the World Court and see how it goes from there. Obviously the Russians view it differently...bummer for him!

look at the Nazis in Ukraine -- these are on the Russian side

Pavel Gubarev is a Ukrainian pro-Russian activist who proclaimed himself the "People's Governor" of the Donetsk Region at the Regional Assembly on 3 March 2014, after separatists seized the building. Gubarev had earlier declared himself leader of the Donbas People's Militia.

or better yet, here's an article from 2017,

My FAVORITE was the one where the Ukrainian reporter was in front of the some of the body bags and the wind blew opening up one of them. So the ‘body’ reached up and closed the bag over himself.

It is important for Malpearce to show the Putinist lies

- they don’t want to admit that Putin has now said “I conquered eastern Ukraine just like Peter the great conquered Swedish and Finnish lands”
the putinista lies need to be shown up for the outrageous lies they are

I understand and sympathize - but the level of deceit, hostility, and downright malignancy I have encountered here at FR since Feb. 24, 2022 has convinced me to cease interacting with certain individual FReepers.

But of course, that could lead to occasional visitors being swept up by their uncontradicted deceptions.

Actually, FR is in dire need of a thorough "Spring Cleaning" with regards to its membership.

They are infiltrating and undermining FR, and should be permanently banned. They are using classic Alinsky tactics - distraction, diversion, abusive language, etc. - and have no place here.

Well, we can all play that game because both side are doing it.

I don’t know which is my favorite.

Is is the series of different videos with kids welcoming the Russians... The exact same kids over and over again, who seem to be teleporting from one town to the next? Z Kids From Fame, maybe.

How about that guy who’s mayor of one town, police chief in another, a roving reporter in a third town, and a Russian soldier in a fourth?

How about the TikTok army fail where the dumbasses were play acting round a gas station but people noticed the gas station is from a chain that doesn’t have a single forecourt in Ukraine?

Or, wait, what about when Lavrov told an audience in Turkey that Mariupol hospital had been decommissioned weeks before they blew it up, and had no medica or pregnant women in it.. only for Russian TV to trumpet the arrival of a pregnant survivor of the attack 2 weeks later?

Actually, FR is in dire need of a thorough "Spring Cleaning" with regards to its membership.

We went through this already in the mid-2000s. A whole bunch of Freepers who adamantly opposed the war in Iraq were banned or self-exiled in an ongoing purge here.

It took ten years, but even the most vocal war-mongering globalist shills here on FR couldn't help but admit that George W. Bush was a retarded baboon who had no business serving in public office.

But by that time the damage had already been done. That's why quarterly fund-raisers that used to be over in a week or two now last almost an entire three months before the next one starts.
