PUTIN IS MORE LIKE ‘IVAN THE TERRIBLE’

Bio:
In the 1560s, Russia was devastated by a combination of drought, famine, unsuccessful wars against the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, Tatar invasions, and the sea-trading blockade carried out by the Swedes, the Poles, and the Hanseatic League.

Ivan the Terrible was appointed grand prince after his father’s death, when he was three years old. In 1547, the “Chosen Council”, being a group of reformers, declared him tsar of All Rus’ at the age of 16. Ivan’s reign was characterised at an immense cost to its people and its broader, long-term economy.

After Ivan the Terrible consolidated his power, Ivan got rid of his advisers from the “Chosen Council” and triggered the Livonian War, which ravaged Russia but gave him greater autocratic control over Russia’s nobility. Ivan the Terrible violently purged with the Oprichnina [period between 1565 and 1572] when creating domestic policy of: secret police, mass repressions, public executions, and confiscation of land from Russian aristocrats. His later years were marked by the Massacre of Novgorod and the burning of Moscow by Tatars.

Ivan the Terrible was described as intelligent but given to: paranoia, rage, and episodic outbreaks of mental instability that increased with his age. In one fit of anger, he murdered his eldest son and heir, Ivan Ivanovich, and caused the miscarriage of the son’s unborn child. Ivan the Terrible the sadistic and brutal deeds included drowning and roasting people alive or torturing victims with boiling or freezing water.

In 1558, Ivan started the LIVONIAN WAR by attempting to gain access to the Baltic Sea and its major trade routes. The war ultimately proved unsuccessful and stretched on for 24 YEARS with Sweden, Lithuania, the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Teutonic Knights of Livonia. This prolonged war had nearly destroyed the economy, and the Oprichnina had thoroughly disrupting the government. The ‘Union of Lublin’ actually united Lithuania and Poland, and was supported by the Ottoman Empire squeezing Ivan the Terrible north and south.

After Ivan the Terrible rejected peace proposals from his enemies, Ivan had found himself in a difficult position by 1579. All the displaced refugees that fled the war actually compounded the effects of the simultaneous drought and increased epidemics causing greater loss of life.

I listened to a few minutes. They talk about two or three British fighters who are sentenced to death. They talk about Putin’s amazing speech “That they’ll get to later.” Have know idea where Merkel’s is.

I mean why post a podcast without telling us where to find things.

Do whatever you want. Listen as long as you want. These are serious people who know from whence they speak. If you don’t listen to it all, what you do listen to will be worthwhile, even if you disagree.

I manage to listen to the whole thing eventually, because it’s background noise while I work on my trade of religious calligraphy.

Nikos, let’s talk.

Time is precious. We have fleeting moments left of our lives. We cannot spend an hour here or an hour there listening to a podcast. I track some of Matt Bracken’s stuff but that’s about it, and it’s usually background as I multitask.

So I recognize I am in that situation and therefore, I understand that most everybody else also is.

When I write an editorial, I write it with time-efficiency in mind. I first write the editorial. I trim easily 60% out on the second revision. Then, on the third revision, I cut 25%. Then on the fourth revision, I look to cut 10% more (sometimes it’s just not possible.)

That is why my editorial stuff is so concise and to-the-point. Most people who read my stuff, appreciate that it is not a terrible investment of time.

So why not just not listen, instead of explaining yourself at length. Time is precious, after all.

No, no time to listen. Took me less than 45 seconds to write that reply, but I cannot invest an hour to listen.

If you were to follow my 'brevity model', it would be that you point out the time markers that would be good for us to listen to, and the duration thereof.

>”Putin Derangement Syndrome”

Just look at these unreasonable snowflakes! All Putin did was invade a sovereign peaceful country, murder many tens of thousands, displace millions and level some cities the size of Miami while threatening to eliminate millions more.

Now some people say this makes him a bad guy!

The nerve on them!

Haven’t they seen how nice tits Putin has on his pony riding pictures!

Eleutheria5, your best approach might be to (having already invested your time) summarize the most important parts for us. It's important, generally, for people to provide citations to the things they put forward. Your citations would be time-links to the audio recording, so if anyone was inclined, they could double check that particular audio sequence.

Just a helpful thought.
