Jan. 6 committee will not make any criminal referrals, chairman says
DNC Then some guy in a bunny suit and then NBC News ^ | By Zoë Richards

The chair of the House committee investigating the Capitol riot said Monday night that the panel will not make any criminal referrals, even though its leaders have previously hinted at the possibility of doing so.

"Our job is to look at the facts and circumstances around January 6 — what caused it — and make recommendations after that," Chair Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., told reporters as he left the House chamber after the second day of public hearings by the panel.

When pressed on the matter and whether the committee had ruled out the possibility of referring criminal charges, particularly for former President Donald Trump, Thompson replied: "We don’t have authority."

Interesting because on January 4, 2022 he said he does have the authority to make criminal referrals.

“I’m concerned about some of the information that we are collecting, that the potential for criminal referrals is there,” Thompson said, adding that he is hesitant to finalize that conclusion until committee lawyers have assessed all available information. “Our first task is to look at the facts and circumstances that brought about Jan. 6. If, in the committee’s review, we find something that the committee and staff feel warrants criminal referral, we will not hesitate one scintilla in making that referral. … We are not shrinking violets.”

Then it is clear that the whole thing is a propaganda exercise.
Which it always was of course.

What a disaster for the Dems. In every way.
And their TV ratings COLLAPSED by a massive 50% after just one day of the “hearing”.
Must be some kind of record.
Everything Dementia Joe touches turns to sh*t for him.

Because there is no crime.
They wanted to see if the exact same testimony would get attention if it was being done to music and shiny lights.

I don’t believe this statement. They will feed their findings to the DOJ on an informal basis and that psychopath Garland will indict on an independent basis, or he’ll certainly float the idea for a few months as if he came up with his evidence on the DOJ’s dime, absolving the Jan 06 committee of exceeding their authority. At a minimum the committee will spoonfeed their findings to the media on a drip-drip basis right up to Nov 22.

“We are not shrinking violets.” Wow: “shrinking violets.” Twenty-three skidoo. Democrats are failures. Prayers for the innocent prisoners in DC and their families.

Great news for the liberals! Aren't they the ones that are so fond of the new post-modern art, cinema, literature, etc.

You know, the art with no definable objects, the literature with no real protagonists, and the cinema with no noticeable plot.

This Jan 6 committee should be just the type of theater they expect: all sound and fury signifying nothing.

Yippee for them!

Yeah, or they’ll get him via the crooked NY attorney general. Dems never give up this easily.

And by the way: President Trump authorized 2,000 national guardsmen two before because he wanted to assure that any and all events be peaceful. This theatrical exercise in fiction defines these bad egg conspirators forever.

Perhaps the due process and discovery rights for the defendants during criminal prosecution would dig up uncomfortable details of the event. Better to just raise an innuendo prior to the mid-terms.

Agree. They can’t hide much during criminal proceedings like all the hours of video that Pelosi refuses to allow to be shown.

Guess their tv ratings were a major flop? No academy awards will be considered for performances?

-- I don't believe this statement. --

That's prudent and wise.

Nothing these clowns say is final or accurate. 100% of the time it's misleading garbage.

He makes an interesting statement about committee purpose. To study the events and make recommendations. Recommendations for what?

-- absolving the Jan 06 committee of exceeding their authority. --

Yeah, same line of thought here. What is the legislative purpose? That said, exceeding authority or working out of their lane or doing something unconstitutional are not crimes when congress does it. Further, there is no remedy at law for congress being out of its lane. Most of the time when congress is out of its lane, the courts endorse it anyway.
