According to the testimony given, Arredondo deliberately held back multiple SWAT teams. One Uvalde officer actually did press forward against orders to assault in, because it was his wife in the room.
Other Uvalde officers detained him, took his gun away and kicked him out.

“Detained”, as in at gunpoint, via threat of being shot if he resisted?
I have to ask, is his wife now among the dead?
The entire department needs to be disbanded, no officer is ever going to trust his fellow officers agains after this debacle.

Not really. My experience of small town police forces isn’t far off what we’re seeing here in terms of incompetency. Sure there are a few small departments that are very, very good - but they are the exceptions in a sea of incompetence. Most small town police forces are only good for breaking up bar fights, rousting drunks or the drugged and writing lots and lots and lots and lots of tickets.
And yet we have people here on FR who still insist to the contrary.

This strange behavior seems to me may be related to the power the Cartels now enjoy in the Neches Strip. Arredondo was going crazy trying to locate some cartel rep in town to tell him if the shooter was a ‘muchacho’ or just a random nut. If the shooter was a cartel made man then he couldn’t be harmed or the cartel would exact revenge starting with Arredondo. The school had been on lock down 40 times this year. What does that tell you about cartel brazenness just dumping illegals in the school parking lot and zooming off. Abbott and all the Texas political establishment know about this situation, but since no one has any answer to it they just want it quiet.
