Fmr. Obama Treasury Counselor Rattner: We Discouraged Opening New Refineries Due to Misjudged ‘Transition Away from Gasoline’
Breitbart ^ | 24 Jun 2022 | IAN HANCHETT

Posted on 06/24/2022 5:53:26 AM PDT by conservative98

On Thursday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Steve Rattner, who served as counselor to the Treasury Secretary in the Obama administration, stated that there is a bit of “schizophrenia” in our energy policy where “We’ve been discouraging oil companies from maintaining refineries or opening new ones. Because we theoretically are going to transition away from gasoline.” But the problem is, there was a “misjudgment as to how long of a transition it was going to be and what we needed to do to make the transition work.”

Rattner stated that “refining capacity has gone down” due to refineries shutting down since the pandemic, but “the rest of the ones that are left are running at full capacity.” And “As much as can be refined is being refined.”

He later added, “The problem is that, of the five [refineries that have shut down], one had a fire, one had some kind of explosion. You cannot simply — these are not simply things you can turn on like a car. It takes months, it costs tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. And by the way, this is, again, a little bit of the schizophrenia. We’ve been discouraging oil companies from maintaining refineries or opening new ones. Because we theoretically are going to transition away from gasoline. But we, again, made a misjudgment as to how long of a transition it was going to be and what we needed to do to make the transition work.”

Oil companies have not built a new refinery for close to 50 years, so if it’s due to government discouragement then it went on through Republican and Democrat administrations. And the decision to close existing refineries were corporate decisions.

"...Because we theoretically are going to transition away from gasoline.”

Well, the PEASANTS are going to be transitioning away from gasoline, and any other type of energy.

Our Elites?

Not so much. International conferences to attend, swank restaurants to sample, and whatnot, dontchaknow.

These days just make me wish for the days of Jimmy Carter. Back then, if an oil company could make a financial case for building a refinery, they would build it. Now that can’t be done because all their investors here is that everyone will be driving electric cars in 5 years.

The people really in charge, over at WestExec, had to address the refinery issue. None of the lies were working, even some in the media stopped buying the Putin Price Hike.

We were energy independent under Trump. Biden attacked fossils fuels. Biden closed down construction on phase 4, cancelled drilling permits on federal land and set more strict guidelines on oil refineries closing 5 in 2021 and 1 in 2022. Biden caused high fuel cost and inflation.

My grandchildren are precious and entertaining, but I don't generally consult children on physical plant decisions.

We should not be consulting children on national energy decisions.

Actually I’d take children over the adults whose have OUTRIGHT STATED that their objective is to ‘transform’ the West.

No, a complete lie for cover. They didn’t misjudge anything.
They are using force and pain to move people in a direction they don’t want to go.

I think I just saw pig flying by.
Did Steve Rattner actually admit someone in the Sparklefarts’ Administration actually made a mistake?

Lordy, I think it was a pig wearing aviator glasses.

We were energy independent under Trump.

We were not. The closest we'd been in a long time but we were still importing.

Biden attacked fossils fuels. Biden closed down construction on phase 4, cancelled drilling permits on federal land and set more strict guidelines on oil refineries closing 5 in 2021 and 1 in 2022.

Which has what with the topic at hand?

Biden caused high fuel cost and inflation.

Biden hasn't helped, but high fuel costs and high inflation are global problems and not unique to the U.S.
