So the pro-choice movement lost the middle of America — as well as losing the moral high ground — by its insistence that, state by state, we must allow teenage girls to be able to choose abortions without parental consent or even knowledge.

I’ve heard others make this argument; that this is just a predictable backlash to overreach by radicals. But the data don’t bear that out, at all.

The public hasn’t recoiled, the pro-life side just finally succeeded in getting the judicial outcome they’ve been working towards for decades.

This has nothing to do with public sentiment, just hardball politics.

Most Americans support abortion in the first trimester as well as parental notification for minors. So in this sense, most Americans are pro choice. After the first trimester, popular support falls considerably.

But where the Left lost people was in their "shout your abortion!" nonsense as well as demanding that there be zero restrictions on abortion for any reason and minors should be able to have abortions without telling their parents.

Finally, while most Americans may support first trimester abortion, they find the subject ugly and not something they want to think about. Certainly nothing to celebrate or bake a cake over.
