I didn’t go out of my way at all. I addressed the facts surrounding the decision to enter Iraq. If you wish to take offense, go ahead. It won’t make any
difference.

Hussein was clearly a threat to the region. If you don’t have the tools to grasp
that, you’re the one who should be embarrassed.

There are reasons the US took on the roll of being the world’s sheriff, or
however you wish to term it. If we don’t go into Iraq, sooner or later someone
else would have to. The question is who?

Would we want Russia to? How about China? Then there’s our buddies in
Europe. Do we want them to develop a large standing EU military force?

We had to fight two wars last century against a large European military force.
Should we see if we can do it again, or should we do the heavy lifting and
just let them help? I’d ask you to figure that out for yourself, but you haven’t
really displayed a talent for grasping these dynamics.

Neither Bush nor Powell have been particularly sharp over the years, but of
course you want them to have the final say in this. You called the Iraq war the
worst mistake in your lifetime, executed by morons. But of course, when it
serves your purposes, these morons are the ones you turn to, to buttress
your claim the war was the worst ever.

irony in that?

That does not change the circumstances that were a reality when the second

Hussein was a problem. He had attacked four other nation, and cost
Hundreds of thousand if not millions of lives.

He was breaking sanctions that had been set up to leave him in power and
protect his neighbors.

He was declaring he would support terrorists against the U.S. He was paying
the families of suicide bombers in Israel.

I know there is a contingent on FR that thinks the US should close all its
overseas bases and not remain engaged abroad.

Sadly, they have no idea how quickly China would fill the void globally.

If we do not project overseas, we will be destined to have no allies and
fight our wars on US soil.
