The funny part of this is, I know of a guy who could have delivered on that train long ago and kept the costs down. His name is DONALD TRUMP.

“How do the Japanese and Chinese do it?”

the distances in japan are shorter ...

the chinese are still at a stage that the US was in the 1940’s & 1950’s where the political will was in favor of MASSIVE engineering projects, plus china is a centralized dictatorship that has zero red tape and zero regard for any form of obstructionism when they want something to happen ...

I didn’t say it was ever going to happen and I doubt it ever will. However cutting through all the Byzantine laws and bureaucracy is the only way they could ever get it done.

I just don’t see enough utilization to pay for it. The 100 billion could be used to build ten new airports in the SF and LA areas. I’d rather fly for 30 minutes than ride the train for several hours.

It'll be useful if you could live in Bakersfield but work in L.A.

Need to use a tunnel boring machine so you can build a station on downtown L.A. The political will to do that may never be there.

Pelosi’s husband has the contract to build that behemoth that will never be needed.

MILLIONS of some of the richest farmland in the USA are now fallow due to this fraud.

IT currently isn’t safe in Calif to be on a mass transit local train...Much less one for hours.

ASK yourself WHY there is an INTERSTATE HIGHWAY in Hawaii........

It must run parallel to Obama’s Intercontinental railroad.

Gov. Gavin Newsom, after an exhaustive search for the perfect California Inspector General, unbiased and incorruptible, has announced that former Speaker of the California Legislature Willie Brown will assume the role of Bullet Train Inspector General.

Willie Brown wouldn't touch it. Say what you will about Willie Brown being a liberal ahole, he got things done. Gavin Newsom is totally incompetent and lazy. Willie Brown is devious and evil, but is able to manage projects to his liking. (I've seen each of them up close.) Brown would steer clear of this fiasco.

It is far higher then $105 billion as the state has shortened the route and does not factor in the mountains and uneven terrain. Nor is is high speed. That was lowered as well to what a freight train would do.

The author should spend a few minutes looking up what a flight costs in money and time. The train should be a non starter. No way the train ride would be 2 hours or 3 hours but much longer.

Shortest Flight Time 1 hours 23 mins
Traveling From John Wayne airport
$74 Cheap Flights from Orange County to San Francisco

FTA: I’ve taken a bullet train in Japan from Tokyo to Kyoto and back and it’s fantastic technology. So if there was a similar train connecting Orange County to the Bay Area in 2-3 hours I’d be a customer.

No way the train ride would be 2 hours or 3 hours but much longer.

Much, much longer. Because of shared rail into and out of SF and LA. Local passenger and freight rail will be sidetracked to allow bullet trains through. This slows down local rail as well as the "bullet" rail. They already spent vast sums of money to raise track and stations above local vehicle traffic in the SF Peninsula, but couldn't secure right-of-way for the bullet trains to have independent rail. It's BS to say this will be high-speed transit.

Worse than the long transit time of a slowed bullet train, is the dangerous safety aspect. There will be mishaps/collisions with local passenger and freight trains because of the shared rail. This has already happened just between commuter trains and freight trains on the SF Peninsula just south of SF. With a bullet train, people will certainly die in large numbers.
