Some landlords in Germany are rationing hot water and will turn down the heating as Europe's largest economy battles soaring energy costs due to reduced supplies of Russian natural gas.
German real estate company, Vonovia, said it would lower tenants' heating during the night to cut costs.
In a statement sent to Insider, the company said the move was designed to "save as much gas as possible," adding that reducing temperatures between 11pm and 6am would reduce heating costs by about 8%.
Some tenants in Dippoldiswalde, Saxony, will only be able to take a hot shower between 4am and 8am, 11am and 1pm and 5pm to 9pm after a housing association said it would cut back on hot water to save for the winter, the Financial Times reported.
German energy bills have shot up since Russia slowed supplies in the wake of sanctions imposed following Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Nordstrom 1 is only shut down for 10 days for annual maintenance.
What shortage?
Germany is still importing it and the Russians haven’t cut them off.
Nordstream 1...
Those living in the cities are in big trouble. No wood/electricity, no gas/transportation, no food. It will be 1st century Jerusalem where they are eating corpses for survival. Scary times ahead.
Trump warned them. Merkel made it out of town.
When I was stationed in England, my wife and I lived in an English house for the first two years, and it had no heat at all in the bedrooms or the loo. Funny, my daughter was born when we lived there.
But I think Germany is colder than England even if it is farther south.
Yep.
I think we are probably looking at another big war...
Exactly.
“ Germany to reactivate coal power plants as Russia curbs gas flow”
I don’t even know how to respond

They should have listened to President Trump.
