Trump-backed Cox likely to defeat Hogan-backed Schultz in Maryland (primary Tuesday)

Former President Donald Trump and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan have put their support behind various Republican candidates to be the state’s next governor, with polls suggesting a potentially close primary race.

Anti-Trump Republican Hogan, who has served as Maryland’s governor since 2015, has urged GOP voters in his state to support his former commerce secretary, Kelly Schultz. Governors, who have readily criticized the former president, have a limited term and cannot seek re-election. Meanwhile, Trump has endorsed Dan Cox, a member of Maryland’s House of Delegates, who first took office in 2019.

With Maryland’s primary set for Tuesday, recent polling has shown close support for neither Republican candidate in a field of four contenders. House of Delegates member Robin Ficker and attorney Joe Werner are also in the running, but Schulz and Cox are clearly leading for their party’s nomination.

Hogan can run?

Not a pretty sight, if true.

Hopefully these people Trump is supporting will not turn on him once in office.

No wonder why Hogan became so liberal. He’s term limited.

“Hopefully these people Trump is supporting will not turn on him once in office.”

In this case, that’s not going to be an issue. The Democrats who dominate Maryland will combine with the RINOs (like Hogan) against Cox after he wins the primary and he’ll be lucky to get 40% of the vote in November.

Maryland will never allow anyone remotely conservative to be elected to any statewide office. The only reason that Hogan ever won is because:

a. He’s farther to the left than most Democrats, and

b. Democrats with supermajorities in both houses of a state legislature sometimes like to have a scapegoat — a completely impotent scapegoat — as Governor (see also ultra-liberal states like Massachusetts and Vermont) so he can be blamed whenever the Democrats and their media allies need to deflect blame for something THEY are actually responsible for.

Reading Epoch Times you would think Hogan was Ronald Reagan.

The only running Hogan does is down his own leg.

Yep. Hogan and Chris Krispy can be running mates on the Donut Ticket.

I will vote for Cox on primary election day coming up, but i will not support the Hogan GOP candidate in the General. Larry boy has given the democrats a solid Super Majority that does what it pleases, so no loss if democrats win… i am long past caring about any loyalty to a particular Party

If we are going to lose the general election anyways, we might as well go down swinging with Cox.

It’s true. He’s up to 6 who want him to run, and now he’s going to poll his extended family as well

Hogan? Schultz? Is this a primary election? Or an episode of Hogan’s Heroes?

Hogan won re-election for this current term when the democrats put forth a true nut case of a candidate (Ben Jealous). While Cox might win the primary Schultz would probably stand the better chance of winning in the general election. Cox would have heavy support from the western part of the state, but wouldn't pull any “conservative” dem votes away in the higher populated central and eastern areas (DC & Balt. metro). It's a moot point anyway with the legislature being so overwhelmingly D
