Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is overseeing a relief effort for some 60,000 families in the state hit hardest by rising inflation with a one-time payment of $450 per child.
“These letters are real,” DeSantis’s press secretary, Christina Pushaw, said in a tweet with a copy of the documents families will receive.
Pushaw also pushed back against claims that these payments are hypocritical because of criticism by conservatives that Biden’s excessive federal spending is the cause for inflation.

Don't foster parents in FL get payment per child? And what about single fathers? I think he has opened a can of worms with this. I guess he feels it ok to let our elders on fixed incomes who are suffering from inflation starve. Free money is a temporary solution. Giving them a way to earn the money would be a better option. Welfare is a dangerous path.
Disappointed.

How about giving it back to actual Taxpayers? Moreso, cut back on property taxes.
This is just more wealth redistribution.

This prevents republicans from holding the line at the federal level against further inflationary cash payments to all adult individuals (for whatever reason).

He should use that surplus to pay down Florida’s debt.
Get that debt down to nothing.

State money distributions contribute to inflation just like Federal money distributions.

One difference between the state of Florida giving away money and the Federal government giving away money is that the Federaly government creates the Dollars to give away, increasing inflation, whereas the state gives away Dollars that already existed, thus not raising inflation nearly as much.

You didn’t read the article and don’t understand money supply and inflation.

Those people have not “earned” this money. Politians give our tax money away as “gifts” from the government.
Is it compassionate to give away someone else’s money who earned it?
“Gifts” buy votes.
DeSantis dissapoints me on this one.

As a lifelong Floridian (72 years) who has paid many thousands of tax dollars to the state, I say giving a gift of $450.00 per child to help less fortunate families send their kids back to school this year has my blessing. If you don’t like it, too bad.

If you don’t like it, too bad. You're one Florida taxpayer, or used to be. That of course gives you no special station in this life to dole out other peoples money. You are of course free to open your wallet and dole out your own cash but I think you would be too stingy to do something so noble.
If you don’t like it, too bad.
