US to plant more trees as climate change kills off forests

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — The Biden administration on Monday announced plans to replant trees on millions of acres of burned and dead woodlands as officials struggle to counter the increasing toll on the nation’s forests from wildfires, insects and other manifestations of climate change.

The U.S. Agriculture Department said it will have to quadruple the number of tree seedlings produced by nurseries to get through the backlog and meet future needs. That comes after Congress last year passed bipartisan legislation directing the Forest Service to plant 1.2 billion trees over the next decade and after President Joe Biden in April ordered the agency to make the nation’s forests more resilient as the globe gets hotter.

The Forest Service this year is spending more than $100 million on reforestation work. Spending is expected to further increase in coming years, to as much as $260 million annually, under the sweeping federal infrastructure bill approved last year, agency officials said.

Congress in 1980 created a reforestation trust that had previously capped funding — which came from tariffs on timber products — at $30 million annually. That’s proven far too little as high intensity fires increase.

Insects, disease and timber harvests also contribute to the amount of land that needs reforestation work, but the vast majority comes from fires. In the past five years alone more than 5 million acres were severely burned.

Lack of energy kills off trees and we all know who is responsible for that

So in what tree or seedling companies did Nancy’s Man or Brandon’s Boy recently load up on out-of-the-money calls?

Easy to “invest” these days.
Just pre-run masses into The Fix.

No, our FEDERAL FOREST MANAGEMENT SERVICE is what’s killing our forests. Allowing infestations of bugs to kill the trees & then not doing what’s necessary to fight fires. Look at the trees growing around Mt. St. Helens owned by Weyerhauser - a beautiful, healthy growth of trees. You can drive by any federally owned lands & see dead & dying trees. Our gov’t is despicable!

The trees they will plant must come with a lifetime supply of water.

I think we would be better served by planting more enviro-Nazis like Algore and Greta Luni Thunberg than planting more trees.

With a large number of fires set by environmentalists, it is easy to blame man-made climate change.....

wildfires, insects and other manifestations of climate change.

Neither of the first two items have anything to do with "climate" change, certainly not the anthropomorphic kind.

Forest mismanagement disguised as environmentalism is the real culprit.

Climate change isn’t killing off forests, it’s people who don’t know how to take care of them resulting in fires and insect invasions.

Want forests?

Pump CO2 into the atmosphere.

and other manifestations of climate change.

that means whacko arsonists that believe in climate change torching forests... which then make it man made.

Climate change kills forests by using environmentalists to keep trees from being cut down. The trees are left standing and the young trees grow up in between them making forests more dense. Then the beetles that eat trees are able to get to nearby trees more easily so they can kill the trees making dense forests into dead dense forests. Then fires start and burn the dead trees down leaving no forests. Add to that the fact that people are always putting out forest fires which are also a natural phenomenon. Fires clear the brush and debris between trees and don’t harm the trees as much as the conflagrations caused by bad forest management under environmentalist supervision caused by climate change.

Okay, I'm confused.

The Climate Change Cultists say there is too much CO2,
which is causing climate change.

Trees (and any other plants) NEED CO2.

Now, the Cultists are saying Climate Change is killing off trees??

All this trees stuff is hard to understand, so let me help you out.

If you believe we need lots and lots more trees while at the same time believe we should reduce the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere ... you might be a Democrat. LOL

Is the phrase “climate change” been in just about every news article ever written in the past 20 years?

Im in the Bay Area near San Francisco. I suggest we buy a few Saguaro Cacti from our Arizona neighbor and transplant them here. It may help keep the Turkey Vultures from sitting in trees glaring at you during a hike in the park. It’s like they’re waiting for you to drop dead from the heat.
Probably just my imagination.
