The conflict is that liberals view conservatives through the words of abject liars, but they also prefer those lies over the truth because that is what virtue signaling is all about: finding someone to point the finger at so they can look good by comparison. They find ways to make it true: if conservatives believe in tradition, it means they are closed minded and bigoted. If they believe in limited government, it means they hate the poor. If they believe in absolute moral values, it means they are judgmental and mean.
I think it was Reagan who said: The problem with liberals is not that they know nothing. It’s that they know so much that just isn’t true.
Here’s a link to Kirk’s essay on libertarians, a group he had no use for:

I’d post some of it but it’s in pdf format.
So is the Sharon Statement, the founding statement of Young Americans for Freedom (of which I am proudly an alumnus — I’d still be a member except for the “young” part.)
Other than the references to Communism.
I was privileged to know him in college, when he was a Dsitinguished Visiting Professor of Humanities. At the alumni weekend a few months ago, I had a nice conversation with his daughter.
PRUDENCE!
And, I’d add the virtue of COURAGE too as all others are dependent on it.
He understood conservatism the best of all I’ve studied.
It is impossible for any government to be perfectly religiously, culturally, or politically neutral.
If you can invent one, please let me and the other Freepers know. Good luck with that project.
I think you meant your comment for Theophilus. I’m not the one thinking that we can run a perfect government on some utopian ideology.

“No senible conservaative movement will proceed without the counsel of Russell Kirk.” — William F. Buckley Jr
I apologize. This was a definite “Oops!”
