WASHINGTON — During a congressional hearing examining the origins of the coronavirus pandemic and gain-of-function research, multiple scientist witnesses contradicted Dr. Anthony Fauci’s claim that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) never funded gain of function research.
“The statements made on repeated occasions to the public, to the press and to policymakers by the NIAID director, Dr. Fauci, have been untruthful. I do not understand why those statements are being made because they are demonstrably false,” Rutgers University microbiologist Dr. Richard Ebright said Wednesday, responding to a question from Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO).
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said on Wednesday afternoon that this contradiction, backed by the other witnesses, was the most “damning” thing to come out of Wednesday’s hearing — the first hearing examining the role of gain-of-function research (a process in which researchers may stitch viruses together to make a “chimeric” virus for the purpose of studying a response).
“I was told directly to my face, and the quote is there from Dr. Fauci, they had never ever funded gain-of-function research in Wuhan,” Paul told The Daily Wire as he left the hearing, referring to Fauci’s May 2021 assertion that “the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
“All three witnesses contradicted that,” Paul continued. “I think that’s a big deal because the first hearing we have had where scientists who actually look at this information [and], as informed as he is, completely disagree with him and say that the research was gain-of-function and the NIH paid for it.”

I agree. The group(s) that approved him should be sued for the deaths and illnesses that have ensued due to his intentional support of continued, unproven usefulness of the covid vaccine.

Don’t be ridiculous. Congress is not a law enforcement body. 90% of congressional “hearings” (or more) are for them to show off.
The lines are drawn on this issue. The US origins of SARS CoV 2 are obvious to anyone with an open mind, but most people’s minds are closed.
Fauci is a character in a play, he’s not the director. Any person in Congress who wants to keep his job, stay alive even, down not want to interfere with the director.
In the midst of covid, 4 separate doctors who knew fauci in the 90s said he had plans to kill mankind and he should be charged with mass murder. They could not go on main stream media.. they would not have been believed either.

I doubt very much that Fauci did anything that he was not assigned to do by some highly-classified and deniable biological weapons research program. It is undoubtedly rationalized as research to understand how to defend against the adversaries biological weapons in order to not conflict with the Biological Weapons Convention.

The jury is already in on COVID-19. Fauci and China conspired to try and create sars-COV2, and Sars-COV2 was created. It’s only certain that it couldn’t have happened any other way. It’s as close to a slam dunk as science and evidence can ever allow. The legal criteria “beyond a reasonable doubt” was surpassed months ago.
The question these scientists and politicians are discussing: Should we outlaw the funding of pandemic gain-of-function research so that this can’t happen in the future?
Well of COURSE we should. It should have been illegal when it happened. Not only should funding be prohibited, but all such research by anyone should be prohibited with prison terms ranging from years to execution for death-inducing epidemics. The sentences should extend to Americans performing these experiments in foreign countries.
Just because a scientist is an extremely highly-paid government official that should not exempt him from the consequences of his actions.
The elephant in the room is this question: Should it be legal for a federal agency chief to do what Fauci did with the Eco Health Alliance, to split off an ear-marked line item congressional budget amount, and grant it to a foreign entity not included in the ear mark?
That’s already illegal. Fauci should be fired and prosecuted. His federal retirement benefits should be terminated. If all of the right laws were in place Fauci would be taking a dirt nap right now.
Special Prosecutors no longer exist. You want an independent counsel.
That appointment has to come from Biden or Garland.
