Poll Suggests Oz Narrowing Gap in Pennsylvania Senate Race

A new poll of the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania suggests the race may be closer than previous polls — and pundits — have suggested.

The race between Lt. Gov. John Fetterman (D) and Trump-endorsed Dr. Mehmet Oz (R) is being closely watched. Sen. Pat Toomey (R) is retiring, giving Democrats an opportunity to pick up a seat and thwart Republican ambitions to take control of the upper chamber of Congress.

Fetterman has led Oz in most polls, often by double digits. However, the race may be tightening.

A poll by the Trafalgar Group shows Oz within 5 points of Fetterman:

Currently, Fetterman is seen as having the advantage; the RealClearPolitics poll average has him up 7.5 points.

Oz was badly damaged in a tough primary contest that saw him cast as an outsider who had taken left-wing positions on social issues in the past. Fetterman was knocked off the campaign trail by a stroke, and appeared to have trouble speaking at his first post-recovery campaign appearance, but has held onto a dogged lead.

Fetterman has sought to capitalize on Oz’s recent reference to vegetables as “crudité,” reinforcing suspicions that he is an elitist who cannot relate to the state’s working-class population. But being the frontrunner also has its disadvantages: recent video surfaced in which Fetterman admits having chased an innocent black jogger down his street and pulling a gun on him.

Traditional thinking is that the race doesn’t really begin until labor day.

The disparity in funding is what’s most deeply troubling.

Oz is a weak candidate and it’s astonishing that he wound up winning the primary, but there it is.

Do the people in Pennsylvania want one third of the criminals in prison turned loose on their streets. That’s Fetterman’s plan, yes?

GOP candidates should focus on the border invasion.

Actually, it’s a difference of 4.9 and you have a MOE of a couple so this is very nearly a tossup right now. Since the campaigns don’t technically start til after Labor Day, Oz is in pretty good shape. A lead would be better, but I’ll take it.

Close races can be lost before Labor Day ever rolls around.

However, it is not yet labor day, and these ads went up and are running in the state - it may be having an effect:

Fetterman’s stroke may have taken more of a toll on him than the media has reported (gee, what a surprise.) He recently gave a 10 minutes speech in Erie, PA in which he appeared confused and disjointed (much like Biden.) So far, his campaign has not responded to a challenge from Oz to debate him. The plan seems to be the same as Biden’s 2020 campaign - keep him under wraps, limit his public exposure as much as possible.

We’ll, when you’re over run with idiots from NY and NJ this is what happens. Also these polls don’t make any sense. Oz and Mastriano are polar opposite and they’re both down…you’d figure one would be up but that’s not the case.

There’s two new polls showing both at have a slim lead and is basically 50/50….
But like I said the other polls don’t make sense.

You guys gotta stop bitching about Oz and vote for him. You can primary him in 2028, but he’s the nominee. I just seen a recent pic of Fetterman on Twitter and he looks like a bad guy from an 80s crime show. Yeah, the guy is THAT BAD.

Don’t believe the polls…good or bad…about this race yet.

It’s too early, Dems have been wasting tons of early money and Oz has been correctly pounding the pavement and shaking hands in every county in the Commonwealth.

I know nothing of Pennsylvania politics.

But I do recall many people on this site were critical of all three major candidates in the Republican Senate primary. We would probably be having the same discussion even if Oz had not won the primary.

He also wants to legalize heroin and safe places to shoot up. If I were Oz, I’d run ads about those while challenging him to a debate in a way that shows he’s trying to pull a basement Biden campaign

Fetterman will never debate. According to those who attended his latest rally, Fetterman cannot put together a complete, intelligible sentence.

He still has significant motor problems since the stroke.

He will be too weak to carry on with a meaningful campaign.

First, August is usually, almost always, the worst polling month for Republican's. They are on vacation or getting family ready for school.

However, the work needs to be put in now instead of playing catch up. Talk about things that matter to them and blame the dims for the mess they created.
