Trump staffers pushed unproven COVID treatment (hydroxychloroquine) at FDA: Panel

WASHINGTON -- Officials in the Trump White House tried to pressure U.S. health experts into reauthorizing a discredited COVID-19 treatment, according to a congressional investigation that provides new evidence of that administration's efforts to override Food and Drug Administration decisions early in the pandemic.

The report Wednesday by the Democratic-led House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis also sheds new light on the role that television personalities played in bringing hydroxychloroquine to the attention of top White House officials. Investigators highlighted an email from Fox News' Laura Ingraham and others from Dr. Mehmet Oz, the celebrity heart surgeon who had a daytime TV show and is now the Republican Senate nominee in Pennsylvania. Ingraham attended an Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump, who himself took the anti-malaria drug.

The FDA originally authorized use of hydroxychloroquine in late March 2020 based on small studies suggesting it could have some effectiveness against the coronavirus. At that time, many researchers hoped that existing antiviral drugs could be used to fight the virus. But by June, FDA officials had concluded the drug was likely ineffective and could cause potentially dangerous heart complications, revoking its emergency use.

Efforts by the Trump administration to control the release of COVID-19 guidance and install political operatives at public health agencies have been well documented.

...

Much of the information comes from an interview with the agency's former commissioner, Dr. Stephen Hahn, who was picked for the job by Trump in late 2019. Frustrated by the pace of FDA's medical reviews, Trump repeatedly accused Hahn -- without evidence -- of delaying decisions on COVID-19 drugs and vaccines "for political reasons."

....

The subcommittee chairman, Democrat Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina,

But by June, FDA officials had concluded the drug was likely ineffective and could cause potentially dangerous heart complications, revoking its emergency use.

Instead, they mandated the highly experimental mRNA treatments, that have proven to be both harmful and ineffective.

THAT was the political decision and it wasn't pushed for by Trump or his staff.

Discredited means it probably works.

The “experts” have blown people’s trust, don’t they get it?

I have to say, my experience with HCQ was dismal. It was standard treatment in my place from February-July 2020 (with azithromycin if Q-Tc was OK).

I knew Didier Raoult back in the day, and his viral suppression data from Marseille certainly caught my eye.

We treated about 150 hospitalized patients with no observable effect. As soon as it was clear that dexamethasone was saving lives (and in the face of many studies), we stopped.

I was not treating outpatients at that point. It’s pretty clear from both monoclonals and Paxlovid that the window for an antiviral is pretty narrow, after the first five days they don’t do much.

More propaganda brought to you by the FBI through fake news media?
HCQ is vastly more effective than the fake covid vaccines the Dementia Joe regime has been pushing.
And I know about HCQ, having taken it lots of times to treat malaria.

Didn’t Fauci publish a paper back in 2005 touting the near-miraculous effects that hydroxychloroquine had on coronaviruses?

Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) was proven as a zinc ionophore. HCQ by itself does nothing, just as zinc by itself is also ineffective. But the two of them together will stop COVID-19 from replicating inside the cells.

There is also an over-the-counter supplement called Quercetin that is a zinc ionophore. HCQ is an off-label prescription for COVID-19 use, but Quercetin is freely available at many vitamin supplement online stores.

It's clear that the medical community and Big Tech conspired to suppress any serious investigation of HCQ in order to protect the emergency use authorizations of the expensive Pfizer and Moderna so-called vaccines for COVID-19.

It was effective. But, hydroxy and zinc together.

How many people have been killed by CDC protocols? Almost all of the deaths attributed to the virus were due to denial of effective early treatment, and CDC protocols.

This is one of a thousand matters where the totally corrupt journalism field of /fake News will kill our nation as the truth will never be examined.

Openly speaking of the corruption of journalism must be done at every opportunity. They must be ridiculed and shown as the lying scum they have become.

This same drug is issued by our own State Department for their employees in hot, equatorial countries. Today and going back decades.
