Yep. Living in a downtown environment you can do a lot without a vehicle. There are downsides as you say. Such as grocerie stores,hardware and Malls.
Those for the most part are in the suburbs. Shoplifting is the main reason for that. IMO.

In Him Kong we were across from Victoria Park. There were a huge Welcome Supermarket and several malls. We were 4 blocks.from HK stadium. The issue was the noise, the crowds, and the freneticness of it all I was really lonely there because because everyone was so busy. It is easier to talk to neighbors in the Houston condo complex.

I like my machine shop I keep in the basement. That would be a real problem to take up to the 22nd floor.
