As it becomes more likely Pennsylvania senatorial candidate John Fetterman may not be able to continue his campaign as he tries to recover from stroke, PA democrats are beginning to whisper that perhaps Fetterman is not up to the job as he has great difficulty putting together a cognitive sentence.
The question, then, is what do PA dems do to replace Fetterman ? Do they wait to see if he recovers sufficiently ?....or pull the plug soon in the event a replacement is in place with time to campaign.
We're reminded that neighboring Jersey simply plugged in a retired senator Lautenburg as it became clear that candidate Torricelli was grafting under the table and could not win the November general. What's the law in PA ? Does the law make a damn bit of difference? This the D party whose M/O is win at all costs, by whatever means necessary.
May we hear from some Penners who know how this scenario might unfold?
It differs from state to state. Consult the Pennsylvania Constitution and the state’s election laws.
I think that’s a matter of state law as passed by the legislature.
I’ve fairly certain it’s the same in every state, if a candidate quits (in time) the state party picks a replacement.
The Democrats new damn good and well that Fetterman was not physically up to the job. They went with him anyways, so I say let it stand.
Fetterman should be easy to beat.
Rule No.1: There are no rules.
Rule No.2: Tell him to take a long walk off a short pier. If he has trouble swimming, toss him an anvil.
As I recall, The Lautenberg/Torrecilli switch was not on the up& up which is what raised the stink and pissed me off to no end.
It was, in fact, the day and reason I joined Free Republic.
As shown in the past, the Dimocrats are held to no rules.
In Missouri a few years back, the Missouri democrat voters actually voted for a dead man, with the promise from the democrat party governor that he would appoint the dead man’s wife to the US Senate.
“Consult the Pennsylvania Constitution and the state’s election laws.”
And the Democrat leaders.
Easy....just ask the power brokers in New Jersey when they yanked The TORCH off the ballot and put in that decrepid old Jewish man that looked like a cadaver!
Well were he unborn or newly born I suppose their official party stance would be to abort him. Ironically.
Laws- since when do they matter??
Here’s a story i remember.
About a decade ago the NJ demoKKKrat candidate for Senate had a major corruption scandal erupt in his face about 6 weeks before the election. He had to drop out.
The NJ law said parties could not replace candidates within 60 days of election day. Didn’t matter- the rats replaced this guy with Frank Lauttenberg (i believe) who went on to win the election.
Thank You- could not remember Torrecilli’s name. See my post, #15. I remember it well.
Pennsylvania Ping!
Please ping me with articles of interest.
FReepmail me to be added to the list.
The Pennsylvania State Democratic Committee selects a candidate.
The selection process can (and likely would be) totally secret.
“PA democrats are beginning to whisper that perhaps Fetterman is not up to the job as he has great difficulty putting together a cognitive sentence.”
Let him take office and see if you still like him after a year and a half like you did with the last half-wit.
Some people are further ahead to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.
Fetterman is one of these persons!
