Ukraine war: Zelenskyy hits out over nuclear watchdog's visit to Zaporizhzhia plant

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has hit out over the UN visit to Europe's largest nuclear power plant.

He's upset the nuclear watchdog inspecting the Zaporizhzhia facility, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), has not yet called for the demilitarisation of the site, which has been occupied by Russian troops since early on in the six-month war.

Zelenskyy also scolded Russia for allegedly obstructing journalists from accompanying the IAEA on its visit to the plant.

"The key thing that should happen is the demilitarisation of the territory of the plant," said Zelenskyy. "This is exactly the goal of Ukrainian and international efforts. And it is bad that we have not yet heard the appropriate calls from the IAEA. Although we talked about it with Mr Grossi at our meeting in Kyiv. This was the key – the key! – security point of our agreements. It was clearly stated: demilitarisation and full control by Ukrainian nuclear specialists.

"When we met with (director general of the IAEA, Rafael) Grossi and members of the mission in Kyiv, we agreed that independent journalists [...] would accompany the mission for the world to see the truth and what is really happening.

Worst conceived and executed commando raid since Desert One or WW2s British Commando St. Nazaire Raid.

Evidently the goal was to seize the nuclear power plant while the IAEC inspectors were there, and hold them hostage to prevent a Russian counter-attack.

Much more of interest at thread link.

The AFU clown show in southern Ukraine scales new heights.

In arguably the most embarrassing debacle of the war yet for Ukraine, they apparently permitted themselves to attempt an MI6-designed and directed commando operation to seize the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

1/
The would-be commandos, 64 in number, recently “trained” in the UK, set out across the Kakhovskoye reservoir in seven high-speed boats, landed on the opposite shore 3 km from the NPP, where they were immediately met by a Russian ambush.

2/
Apparently Russian intelligence was fully aware of their plans and had monitored the debutante commandos from the time they left Poland to pursue their ostensibly glorious operation – allegedly advocated by the corpulent Boris Johnson himself in his recent visit to Kiev.

3/
Of the 64 “commandos”, at least 47 are now dead, a few wounded, and a dozen trapped with no means of escape, all seven of their boats having been destroyed.

The entire undertaking has been an unmitigated amateurish disaster.

4/
As for the long-anticipated “Kherson Counter-offensive”, it appears to be losing steam at a rapid pace.

In the past 24 hours, another 31 tanks, 30 armored vehicles, 8 pickups with machine guns, and 350 soldiers have been destroyed.

5/
In addition to the ongoing massacre taking place near Kherson, another platoon of M-777 howitzers has been destroyed, 44 HIMARS rockets intercepted, and 2 US-made HARMS missiles intercepted in another futile attack on the Antonovsky bridge.

6/
It has become increasingly obvious that, despite having, on paper, a “formidable” force arrayed in the Kherson region, the Ukrainian troops are essentially incapable of anything approaching competent combat-effectiveness.

This war needs to end soon.

7/end

Apparently there were additional two landing boats with each 160 troops coming after the first 64 … but they were sunk … 320 dead in the middle of their route …

Plan was fun … capture plant and sit there with the UN commission, what prevents Russian strikes …

How would Zelensky know what’s going on with the’journalists’?

Worst conceived and executed commando raid

Nay, an excellent plan, with only a tiny glitch — the Russians clearly knew it too, in details.

Which brings up a question: what was the rationale for Zelensky a couple of days ago to state that the Russians are about to get a surprise?

Too much cocaine, perhaps.

Anyway, the net result is the Ukrainian special forces as well as MI-6 super-Bonds easily converted to Chicken Kiev...

The St. Nazaire Raid is not the best example you might have chosen (of bad planning/execution).

The raid was very successful: the all-important drydock was put out of operation until 1948

However it’s fair to say that the decisive act of the Raid was the HMS Campbeltown being used as a breaching charge.

The commando component of the raid seems to have been very expensive and not to have achieved very much - except of course to divert the Germans from the large destroyer-shaped bomb in their midst.

A separate engagement took place about an hour later to the West of Energodar, which hosts the power plant, Moscow explained. Russian forces attacked and sank two watercraft that were carrying Ukrainian amphibious tactical teams, the statement said.

The ministry also claimed that about two hours after the landing of the commando units, Ukrainian artillery began shelling a specific location near Energodar. Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who are on their way to visit the facility, are scheduled to pass by the area, according to the report.

The IAEA was stupid to travel to the plant via Ukraine, which does not control it, rather than via Russia, which does.

I call bullshit until I see a Russian video stream showing two Ukrainian boats in the water.

If there’s no photo evidence, no video evidence, no bodies washing up on the south shore, nothing other than one bloke’s blog with just a sketch on a map, it’s probably dodgy.

Why is it that no matter how much photographic evidence PROVES Russia fired into Enerhodar from the rough vacinity of where that red dotted line starts from in the Lord Bebo tweet (if someone can tell me how to fake not just the landing of a missile less than fifty feet away but ALSO fake an angled crater at the spot afterward, all within a click of a few hundred Russians, I’d really love to hear it!), people brush it away...

And yet they reckon Russia’s entire counternarrative of two boats with 320 people on board them when they were sunk, can’t be false because, what, one anonymous internet blogger was able to draw a dotted line on a map?

If he’d photoed a flotilla of corpses I’d say it was true.

Put the survivors on trial. In front of the whole world.

I actually said this as a joke earlier this week and blow me down, the Russians tried it on.

So, aside from the failed nuke plant commando raid, how’s the rest of the Great Kherson Counter-offensive going?
