When I went to Marine Corps boot camp in the 70s there was a fat boy platoon that got overweight recruits down to their goal weight. No reason why that wouldn’t work again.

My daughter’s friend had a chance to go to medical school paid for by the military - but (IIRC) she had to give them nine years. She almost did it.
Then didn’t.
She’s set to graduate as an MD next year - $500,000 in debt...
We can trace military service in our family from the Revolution, Civil War (CSA), WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam and the Cold War. Me being the last so far serving through much of the Cold War. I hope my twin grandsons will not follow our lead unless there are very great changes, like getting rid of wokeness for a start.
It is not a "4%", it is a 40% short fall. A substantial difference.
Word has it that All the vet fathers and grandfathers are telling their kids to find a better option. On top if the new Woke training, the Pentagon is talking about pay cuts for the enlisted. Trimming housing bennies for married personnel, no more "accompanied" overseas tours, things like covering total moving expenses for a change of station.
The Air Farce used to pay for shipping officer's personal cars overseas. They are "re-examining" that bennie.
This is on top of cutting back on tactical training, map reading and other such fripperies, to spend more time watching PowerPoint lectures, learning that all the white kids are oppressing the black and brown kids.
