Zelensky Visits Newly Reclaimed City as Ukraine’s Blitz Presses On
The New York Times ^ | September 14, 2022 | Andrew E. Kramer and Marc Santora

President Volodymyr Zelensky made a dramatic visit to newly reclaimed Izium on Wednesday, raising the Ukrainian flag over the strategic city and underscoring the failure of Russia’s campaign in the northeast.

Mr. Zelensky, standing in a cold drizzle amid wreckage left behind by the fleeing Russian Army, told soldiers assembled before him in front of the bombed-out municipal building: “Our blue-and-yellow flag is already flying in de-occupied Izium. And it will be so in every Ukrainian city and village.”

Mr. Zelensky’s visit came as Ukrainian forces continued to sweep south from the Kharkiv region, and were fighting on the outskirts of Lyman, a city at the doorstep of the Luhansk region. Russia captured Luhansk over the summer in a monthslong campaign that razed cities and left thousands of soldiers on both sides dead.

With Ukraine having captured the momentum on the battlefield in the nearly seven-month-old war, President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia is confronting more vocal criticism over his faltering invasion. At a meeting of Russia’s Parliament on Tuesday, the leader of the Communist Party, Gennady Zyuganov, joined those calling for Moscow to announce a full military mobilization, which Mr. Putin has declined to do in order to preserve the sense at home that his “special military operation” is limited and proceeding according to plan.

But Comrade Cranked, where is Comrade Putin? Has he ever visited his troops on the front lines? Last I heard he was in Sochi getting his regular chemotherapy treatments...

Does he need to visit his troops and provide for a PR stunt like ZelenskyyIdiot? Really?

And according to you knuckleheads and your propaganda articles that you have posted time and time again with FR over the time of this war/conflict, Putin should have been dead long damn time ago. So yeah........

Yesterday they closed the ring road around Moscow. I presume that was to keep the rioting Russians demanding regime change out of the city.

PR stunt, nothing more.

A PR stunt just a short distance from the front line and within range of Russian missiles.

Putin the paper pushing KGB agent, meanwhile, has never been anywhere near any kind of danger. He's actually not even in the Kremlin while this military crisis unfolds.

No one on FR has made any such claims. On the other hand, YOU stated... Ukraine had already lost the war and called the offensive fake news and NATO propaganda lol.

I take everything I read about Russia/Ukraine with a grain of salt and a huge portion of skepticism.

>> PR stunt, nothing more. <<

Russian propagandists would never otherwise admit their crushing defeat. I never thought I’d see the day when so many conservatives bought into that liberal disease of loving our enemies simply for hating America. It’s as if FReepers hated the socialism of the New Deal, so signed up to join the Nazis. Now, the neo-Soviets around here fall for Putin trying to sound like Bush in an absurd false equivalence.

(Izium) - President Zelenskyy made a surprise appearance today in Izium to perform for the troops. Dressed in high heels, he danced and played the piano with his penis. Moral shot up dramatically, especially among troops in our Unicorn Battalians. Many tried to stuff Ukrainian bills into President Zelenskyy’s G-string…”

Putin is going to meet Xi on Thursday in one of the Craphole-istans to beg for weapons and give 50% discounts on Russian oil.

So your position is that a commander congratulating his troops in person after an important victory is a mere “PR stunt” for idiots?

You have so deeply drunk the poison of the Evil Emperor that you have fallen to the dark side?

That’s why donations are way down.

Oldtimers can see what is happening here.

This should not be a website for Zelensky’s propaganda.

So what? Zelensky went to a strategically important city - Izium - for a photo op and to meet with troops. That kind of thing is a morale builder for the troops and the people at large. His presence in that city validates that it is safely under the control of Ukraine once again. That serves to strengthen national resolve to continue fighting, encourages foreign nations to keep sending supplies and armaments, and likely encourages more people to fight. So "just PR"...well, raising the flag on Suribachi was a "PR stunt" too.

A very normal PR move. Also good for troop morale.
George V and Raymond Poincare each visited the trenches several times, and King Albert of Belgium practically lived in them.

Its like a US President visiting a disaster area. Leadership requires such things.

I wouldnt put any significance on it either, other than that the other side has been truly awful about such things. Putin hasnt gone anywhere near the front.

Pffft.

The Guardian, Democracy Now, and others reported that a mere 1,000 square kilometers were retaken by Ukraine, not Zel’s claimed 6000 sq km.

The BBC reported that about 1/5 of Ukraine has been conquered by Russia. So Ukrainians retaking 1k to 6k square kilometers of 1/5 of Ukraine turns out to be a paltry percentage (less than 1% to around 5% of what Russia has conquered) and especially paltry given that Russia has made recent advancements into other areas of southern Ukraine.

Ukraine took back land the size of Rhode Island (as Russia took more land in the south) and Ukrainian leaders have said publicly they are “worried” if they can even keep it.
