House Democrats could vote as soon as this week on a pruned-down package of police and community safety bills, according to Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), who said the negotiators are close to the deal that’s eluded them for months.

While the talks are continuing on Tuesday, Hoyer said party leaders are “hopeful that those discussions will prove fruitful in the near-term — meaning the next 24 hours.”

Must be an election coming up or something

An amazing conclusion! One wonders if this has been a pattern in the past?

I prefer communities taking care of themselves rather than being taken care of

Cuts made by Democrats are “slimmed down.”

Cuts made by Republicans are “slashed,” “axed,” “draconian.”

“• Another bill, sponsored by Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.), promotes the use of mental health workers, in lieu of law enforcement officers, in responding to incidents involving people with special behavioral needs”

No matter what becomes of this bill, it will be wasteful spending filled with a bunch of federal compliance crap, useless woke programs and worse. Local law enforcement should be funded locally and meet the needs of the community. Federal spending on local law enforcement causes communities to become more dependent on the federal government. It’s like free money to them and they will waste it. No one demands value out of what seem like free money.

This is a perfect example of how money doesn’t solve a problem. Republicans should be saying that they will eliminate federal mandates on local law enforcement and the federal bureaucracy that goes along with it. In turn, money saved at the federal level can be returned to communities to do what they wish.

Personally, I don’t give a damn about crime in big cities. I give a damn about my tax dollars being spent on my local police AND big city police. They can eff’n pay for their own damn problems. I certainly didn’t cause them.

Criminals being released from prison as foreign criminals pour across our borders and Stupid Steny the moron wants a “slimmed-down policing package”. Sometimes I think they should make it illegal for elderly politicians to do recreational drugs.

Federal spending on local law enforcement takes away local control. So the feds can determine who gets hired and what their priorities are. It is a nationalization of local police.

Police are run and managed by state and local gov.
The Fed already has the FBI to play god with.

“Policing and Community Safety” has what to do with the FedGov Swamp, exactly?
If we don’t force this leviathan back within the confines of the Constitution, we will be lost...fully and completely.
