Hollywood really had some classy actors back then, as compared to the trash we have today in Hollywood.

I love the old movies. Are there sites on the Internet where you can find free old movies, as I don’t want to pay a streaming service such as Turner or Netflix.

Shame that Susan Hayward got sick and died at that early age (in about 1975 in her late ‘50s IIRC) from lung cancer (in no doubt due to her heavy smoking).

I remember this movie well from my youth. I also remember how disappointed I was after watching the movie and then later seeing what the real Rachel Jackson looked liked compared to the reel Rachel Jackson (Susan Hayward)

How I wish they could go back in time and film it in color. I can’t imagine the executive decision that put Susan Hayward’s flaming red hair into b & w.

Heston also played Andrew Jackson the The Buccaneer (1958). The goof was Heston looked liked Jackson in his 60s when the real Jackson was only 47 in 1815.

Charlton Heston played Andrew Jackson twice, once in 1953’s The President's Lady and again in this Cecil B. DeMille-shaped slice of historical hokum, The Buccaneer (1958).
Second time out there's less smooching and more shooting, with the future head of state battling the British for New Orleans in the war of 1812.

Thanks for posting! I had not heard of this movie. Just started it and it looks very good. Andrew was square dancing with Rachel when her husband showed up. Fireworks to ensue!
Too bad it’s encoded at only 480p.

Andrew Jackson was a great president. He should be on Mt. Rushmore rather than Roosevelt.
