Three weeks ago, the Ukrainian army’s northeastern counteroffensive dismantled one of the Russian army’s elite units: the 1st Guards Tank Army.
Now the same counteroffensive reportedly has wrecked a new motorized infantry division the Kremlin stood up a few years ago in order to help protect the 1st GTA. After suffering steep losses around Bakhmut in recent days, it’s possible the 144th Guards Motor Rifle Division no longer is combat-effective.
These losses are unsustainable for the Russian army—and explain why the Kremlin is willing to risk widespread unrest as it forcibly drafts 300,000 men and speeds them to the Ukrainian front line with as little as a day of training. The professional Russian army is disintegrating.
The Russian army formed the 144th Guards Motor Rifle Division and a companion division specifically for war in Ukraine. Together, the two divisions make up the 20th Combined Arms Army. On paper, the 20th CAA oversees more than 20,000 troops riding in 560 BMP fighting vehicles and 300 T-72 tanks.

lol David Axe lol
However...what is clearly the case is that this kind of counter-offensive should have left the participatinng Ukrainian brigades highly vulnerable to a heavy counter-attack. At least, that would be the case if the twin Russia claims of 1) the Ukrainians have suffered massive losses and are on their last legs, and 2) Russian forces really haven't been hurt badly and simply didn't contest that particular ground" were true.
But no large scale counterattack has come. If it had, the Ukrainians would already have been blown back to their starting lines with catestrophic losses. It would be irrefutable. The only logical conclusion is that the Russians haven't launched such a counter-attack because they can't. They simply don't have that kind of offensive combat power left.
The details are murky, but the big picture is pretty clear.
The guy who shot his mobilization commander might get fewer years than if he just refused to serve.
If he refuses to serve, he gets 10 years.
If he shoots the mobilization commander he gets 15 but is eligible for release in 7.
These far-leftists sure are cheerleading for more war, and needless death.
It’s quite a phenomenon.
A Forbes Propagadist for the Ukrainians being promoted/advanced by a FReeper propagandist for the Ukrainians.
As of now reliable sources estimate there may be as many as 100 million Russian dead in the war....sarc
“reportedly has wrecked a new motorized infantry...”
Not even an “anonymous source said” or “unnamed sources say” this time about the new glorious exploits of thd Ukrainian army.
I’m disappointed. 😂
This dude is a one-trick pony.
He is a hardcore Leftist also obsessed with legalized baby killing — check out his Twitter @daxe to confirm.
A real axehole.
I’ll happily be a “propagandist” for the great Ukrainian people in their time of need.
Sorry you like murdering scumbag dictator Russian Napoleon wanbabe Putin.
Death to Putin! Long live Ukraine!
Yeah, right, a whole division wiped out in an afternoon.
Back in my younger days I used to occasionally listen to Radio Hanoi for some laughs. I’ve always remembered one of Hanoi Hanna’s reports: The village of ‘Xxxxx Xxxx’ was bombed today by 17 squadrons of American B-52 bombers. Two chickens were killed and a pig injured. Eightteen of the B-52s were shot down by the gallant soldiers of Ho Chi Minh.
I suspect “It’s All Over” is a government agent seeking pro Putin Freepers. He doesn’t answer when asked if he works for any government agency.
Just a word to the wise.
You nailed it House Atreides. One has to wonder, why the western propaganda outlets have gone into overdrive in the last 2 to 3 weeks. What are they up to?
Something no good assuredly.
I would suggest three things going on:
1. Russian tanks destroyed/disabled...weren’t replaced. They don’t have the production facilities or the repair manpower to carry on a major program. So if x-unit is supposed to have 300 T-72s on the books...presently they are probably in the 50-percent range.
2. Getting fuel to the tanks (even early on in the war) has been ‘hit-and-miss’. You see a lot of video where Russian tanks with almost no damage were left on a road. On each occasion that you left one....that was a plus-up for the Ukrainians.
3. A fair number of Russian videos (not Ukrainian) show 1960s hardware at work.
It's just that anyone who can read a map, knows something of things military, and follows some of the admissions the Russian government itself has made knows that things aren't going well for them. The lack of a major counterattack by the Russians in the aftermath of this Ukrainian advance is a huge red flag. And then when coupled with the recent decision to call up more troop, the picture it paints for the Russian army is pretty ugly.
I can see why they destroyed the Russian Division but why the hell did they destroy the “Forbes staff”?
