Russian men drafted by President Vladimir Putin's recent mobilization announcement are using a Ukrainian hotline to ask how they can give themselves up.
The "I Want to Live" hotline was announced by Ukraine's MOD on September 19, two days before Russian President Putin announced the mobilization to the battlefield.
Yusov said the hotline has received "a lot of calls" from recently drafted Russians, and even some who haven't yet been mobilized: "They're calling and asking 'What should I do if I get called up? What do I have to do, what's the right way to surrender?'"
Putin's announcement sparked protests nationwide AND prompted some Russians to take desperate measures.
Putin had earlier promised he would not take this step, which brings the reality of war to Russians accustomed to civilian life.
Flights to several countries sold out after the announcement, and according to The Guardian, some paying up to £27,000 for private jets out of Russia. Satellite images also showed traffic at Russia's borders from people trying to leave the country.
A Telegram channel for the hotline has gathered nearly 14,000 subscribers in the 10 days since it was launched.
One post by the hotline said it had also received calls from Russia-occupied Crimea, and that the hotline is also for Ukrainians in occupied parts of the country who Russia has forced into serving in the war.
The project is "intended both for Russians who chose life instead of death for the unknown ideals of the 'Russian world' and for all others who have become victims of Putin's military machine.'"
In an address on Sunday — in which he switched to speaking in Russian — Ukrainian President Zelenskyy added that Russian troops will also be allowed to surrender confidentially, without the obligation to return to Russia in a prisoner exchange.

RE: Russians are calling up the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense asking how to surrender, Ukraine says
Can’t we have another source other than “Ukraine says”?
I would also ask the same question if the title had the words : “Russia says” in it.
If true, the US Army is probably directing this.
Wow. Zeeping is getting serious around here.
lol and ping.... If I were a young Ruzzian draftee, I would surrender too. No sane person wants to die for Putin’s fantasies.
“Ukraine says”
And the spammy onslaught of breathless Zelensky girl-crush posts continue to pollute this forum.
It’s so nice in the earlier part of our (US time) morning before the Eastern European Troll Squad (EETS) clocks in for their evening (their time) shift. The air is fresh and the conversations more civil before they arrive.
Then, the EETS comes on in droves, spamming out propaganda article after propaganda article, commenting repeatedly on them in order to keep their garbage in everybody’s faces and stinking up the news feed.
Day after day after day.
And to top it off, most of them are shrill, nasty people, slinging lame little eastern European insults that they learn in Troll Class.
Same wih Vietnam or any of these other bullshit foreign wars that the globalist send our son’s and daughters
All the keep profits up and the war machine’s stakeholders happy.
And by the way I’m an honorably discharge military veteran and a military brand of a father who was in the military 20 years. Also served in the intelligence community for 30 years.
I’ve seen the light. 90% of these wars are utter bullshit
On the one hand...
But on the other hand...
I lean towards letting them flee Russia. Maybe make them sign a statement that they don't support Russia's war against Ukraine and that they will respect the rules and laws of the country they are fleeing to.
I’m sure it’ll get a mention on Rossiya1 by the end of the month. They’ve already talked about the convoys fleeing the draft, and complete novices being sent to the Kherson region with little more than an hour’s induction and a half filled kit bag.
Also, Russian television broadcasting of the EPG was hacked so that it broadcasted Zelenskyy’s guarantees to Russians who surrender. Maybe they put the phone number up on it!
“Zeeping is getting serious”
Of course, the “Z” or Zeeping stands for Russia.
The Russian military troops need to find a serious way out
I agree.
bookmarked
Best post I have read in ages on the Ukrainiac worms and weevils who have turned this place into Drudge.
The US Army is good at those things.
This VN combat vet agrees.
Thank you. :)
