Arizona sues Biden administration over student loan forgiveness

PHOENIX — Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Biden administration to stop its "illegal" student loan cancellation program.

The lawsuit challenges the president’s authority, through the Department of Education, to cancel more than $500 billion in student loan debt without congressional approval.

“This mass debt forgiveness program is fundamentally unfair, unconstitutional, and unwise,” said Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich. “The question Americans need to be asking is why college costs so much in the first place?”

Under the student debt cancellation program, the administration plans to cancel $10,000 to $20,000 of student loan debt for people who make less than $125,000 annually or $250,000 annually for a married person filing jointly.

In his lawsuit, Brnovich asserts the Biden administration does not have the authority to cancel student debt.

Brnovich said Biden is wrongfully relying on the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students Act (HEROES Act) and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The HEROES Act was a response to the September 11 attacks to relieve active-duty personnel from financial hardship while defending our nation. The act also includes individuals who reside in disaster areas affected by a national emergency.

Brnovich said Biden's is attempting to stretch the HEROES Act to assert authority over all borrowers in the country..

Amazing, we still have a few adults left in positions of authority in the U.S.

Yep, it must be really hard for that childless couple to get by on just slightly less than a quarter of a million dollars a year. Awful nice of Biden to instead make taxpaying couples with children struggling to get by on $80k/yr pay their education debt for them.

I saw a picture of a meathead holding up sign thanking the demented pedophile for “cancelling his student loan.” It’s obvious the moron didn’t learn a thing in “college”. His butt buddy didn’t cancel anything. He is just making some other poor fool pay for diploma boy’s bills. When these low I.Q. clowns go to “college”, they should be required to demonstrate that actually learned something. This idiot didn’t

why didn’t they sue when the program was first introduced? federal student loans are unconstitutional in the first place. the Constitution permits the federal government to borrow money, not loan it. Every federal loan is unconstitutional.

not that the Constitution matters anymore.

I don’t know who the hell the demented pedophile thinks he is to believe that he can make me pay for some other moron’s college tuition. The bass turd isn’t my kid. He can pay his own tuition. I didn’t tell the meathead to go to college. Talk about torpedoing “democracy”. That’s straight out of the communist handbook for dummies.
