Ukraine war: Russia withdraws troops from Lyman, strategic town in region Putin annexed

Russia suffered another setback during Ukraine's counteroffensive, confirming it withdrew troops from the eastern town of Lyman, within the newly annexed Donetsk region.

Ukraine’s armed forces on Saturday said they had "liberated" five settlements in the Donetsk region and encircled thousands of Russian soldiers.

"Due to the risk to be encircled, the allied forces were withdrawn from Krasny Liman to more advantageous frontiers," Russia's Ministry of Defense said Saturday.

"The Russian troops in the area of Lyman are encircled. Yampil, Novoselivka, Shandryholove, Drobysheve, and Stavky settlements are liberated. Stabilization measures are being conducted there," Serhii Cherevatyi, Speaker of the Eastern group of troops, told a Ukrainian news outlet reported Pravda.

The advancement comes one day after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared a land grab for not only Donetsk but the Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions as well.

...

But Ukrainian forces have been making advances in western Luhansk and northern Donetsk as they inch toward the strategically important city of Sievierodonetsk, which Russia has occupied since June.

Cherevatyi said that some 5,000 to 5,500 occupiers were in Lyman, but noted it was difficult to estimate the number of troops in the areas surrounding the town due to the fluid movement of troops in combat zones.

The spokesman said that some Russian troops tried to unsuccessfully break through Ukraine’s barricade near the city while others had begun to surrender.

Taking Lyman is a significant strategic win for Ukraine but Cherevatyi said the fight to fully liberate the city was not over.

Lyman has served as a major logistics and transport hub for Russian forces and its operations in northern Donetsk, reported Reuters.

Securing the city is the biggest battlefield win for Ukraine since it forced Russian troops to withdraw from roughly the entire Kharkiv region in a major counter-offensive last month.

So more lies from Russia. The Russian troops in Lyman are encircled, and Russia says the troops in the pocket withdrew. Eventually, the truth will get to the Ruskies on the front lines killing morale worse than it is now.

Russian army chased away by Ukrainian farmers again. This time from a “Russian city”, though. If that isn’t a beaten and wasted fake army nothing is.

Thanks Dr. A number of the Russians fled by night, taking only light vehicles and abandoning their remaining arms and ammo. The rest have been encircled and trapped. The Russians have no resources inside the pocket available for a breakout, and nothing to the east to offer attack.
It's a classic "hit 'em where they ain't" by the Ukrainians, and the Russians fleeing Lyman and the surrender of those now trapped may (probably) cause another big skedaddle in the wider front, as happened when the Ukrainian counterattack started over a month ago. The Ukrainians gave the fleeing Russians time to tell all the other Russians what was happening, causing those behind the lines to run as well.

Ukraine will recapture the four occupied territories slice by slice, also known as “salami tactics”.

Also, Spetsnaz wiped out in Lyman after DPR conscripts fled and left them to fend for themselves. Putin ordered Spetsnaz not to retreat from Lyman and now they’re all dead.

Twitter can be very good in such Ukie vs Roooooski battle situations. But you must intelligently sift through Twitter to find the truth. You must skim past the garbage posters. To get to the reliable Tweets.

The Ukrainians gave the fleeing Russians time to tell all the other Russians what was happening, causing those behind the lines to run as well.

The Ukies convinced the Ruskies that they would attack in the Kherson front, and the Ruskies took the bait and moved troops to Kherson, weakening the Kharkiv front. The Ukies took full advantage of the situation. So now the Ukies are fighting where the Ruskie supply lines are shortest and have the advantage, while simply shelling in Kherson where the Ruskie supply lines are longest and also have the challenge of crossing the Dnieper. Obviously, the Ukies have the initiative now, in large part to Putin's arrogance and stupidity. Putin is running the Ruskie military now and he is making stupid decisions. Eventually, Ivan will turn on their Fuhrer.

I guess the cumulative $80 Billion has paid off! (do they still need the $12.3 billion in the Continuing Resolution bill from 2 days ago?).

No need for the press. Just look at your map. Russia isn’t forever occupying Ukraine. The Russian military has proven to be as corrupt and fake as Russia itself. No surprise there of course.

How long are you going to sing this song? The Russians have been attacking Bakhmut for how many months now? They are nowhere near taking it. Btw, cranked, have you received your draft notice yet?
