Progressives hunt for new, younger leaders post-Sanders-Warren era

Progressives are on the quiet hunt for a new generation of leaders, eagerly awaiting the outcome of the midterms to plot their next steps.

“We’ve been talking about fresh blood for years,” said one Democratic strategist who reluctantly supported President Biden in the 2020 election. “Years! And every time we go back to the dinosaurs because we say we have nothing better.”

Progressives’ two biggest national fixtures — Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) — themselves aren’t young and some in the party are ready for a blank canvas in 2024 or beyond, particularly if Biden decides not to seek reelection or if November’s outcome is less than favorable for their side.

There was a nascent effort this spring by close allies to prop up Sanders, 81, as an alternative if Biden doesn’t run and a leaked memo surfaced with talking points about his possible future plans.

Sanders didn’t shut down the idea of competing for the Democratic presidential nomination for a third time, saying this week in an interview with CBS News: “I haven’t made that decision.”

But many Democrats are hesitant if not outright hostile to the prospect of nominating a man older than the sitting president to compete against what’s expected to be a close presidential race in a divided country.

“We should be finding ways to elevate some rising stars in the party who have been crowded out by people like Bernie,” another Democratic strategist said, making the case that an overhaul is needed when the top figures of the party are in their 70s and 80s.

Sanders-Warren? OK, Bernie I can understand, but who looked up at Fauxahontas as a progressive leader?

Plus, I thought AOC and the Goon Squad were the Progressive leaders of tomorrow?

Problem is, Leftist leadership becomes more and more infantile with each generation.

Younger political leaders? Good luck with that, the baby boomer generation is only going to vacate the halls of power when they are carried off to the morgue. I can’t think of another era in political history where so many octogenarians sit at the every level of the pollical structure.

Well that would depend on what they really mean by younger. ....60 would seem younger to the many in congess in their 80’s and upper 70’s....and there’s a lot of them.

They’ve left the next generation a stinking pile of garbage policies. Where is a new generation supposed to start? What is their message going to be? That kids can “transition” genders? That uncontrolled immigration is a good thing? That we should defund the police? Killing babies a day before birth is virtuous? Paying the homeless helps with the problem?

They’re all non-starters.

There was considerable sadness on some leftist blogs because AOC was not eligible to run for president in 2020 (she was too young). But she will be 35 before Election Day in 2024.

So she’s good to go.

Aw, heck, Bernie and Liawatha have another twenty good years in them, easy. It doesn’t take brains to be a proggie, just passion and a little degeneracy, and you can’t swing a dead cat on most campuses or the streets of Portland without smacking one.

The problem isn't just 'new people'... Bernie Sanders can hold his own with any 40 year old even now.

The problem is the ideas are old - most go back over a hundred years to a young Marx who hadn't been disproved by hundreds of failed 'experiments' the world over.

And the WOKE stuff? Those are tactics for control -NOT 'new ideas'.

Face it - everywhere communism's been tried, it's failed. (And no, Sweden is NOT a communist country.)

There are other paths to a better world - lots of 'em. But the worn path to Cuban style misery is dreadful and too well known to fool enough people to vote for it. Give it up progressives - find something people WANT to get behind - not something they have to be tricked, manipulated, and lied into.
