According to the German security services, last weekend's sabotage of train cables in northern Germany was a "politically motivated act". This is reported by German media. They did not disclose why the security services think this.
On Saturday morning, rail traffic in northern Germany was halted for hours after the railway's essential radio communications cables were cut. The fiber optic cables were also damaged, causing the backup system to fail.
Offenders with inside knowledge
The security services assume perpetrators with insider knowledge. Germany has in the past experienced politically motivated acts of sabotage, recalls Der Spiegel...

The bridge explosion in Russia isn't the only thing that happened on Saturday morning.
There was sabotage of the rail system in northern Germany as well.
Germany is a center of opposition to US-NATO policy against Russia in Ukraine.
French anarchists linked to New York bombing

But it now transpires that the alleged culprits were netted thanks to information from the FBI, which allegedly linked two of them to the home-made bomb attack on an army recruitment centre in New York’s Times Square in March....
There is going to be things breaking the whole world over. Data cables are likely to be cut and business in America would be wise to hire onshore IT talent. If enough data cables get cut there is no such thing as offshore support and I don’t think the idiots that run our corporations have the brains to make it work without them.
