Jurors recommended Nikolas Cruz be sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing 17 people and wounding 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018.

The panel of seven men and five women deliberated for little more than a day before handing up the recommendation. Victims' family members in the courtroom gallery scowled, shook their heads or wept as circuit judge Elizabeth Scherer read the recommendation Thursday.

If it is truly life without parole, OK

If Life means 20-25 years, No

Sentencing someone to death is a big responsibility, and its a good thing, as a society, we don’t treat it lightly. I know many people who simply couldn’t do it.

Nonetheless, IMHO, if murdering 17 people and wounding 17 more is not worthy of death, what crime is??? Its an insult to society and the victims.

I’m all for the death penalty, but in this case, I tend to think life without parole may be the harsher punishment, given how young this little psycho is. He’s going to have a very long time to think about what he did and likely become some convict’s girlfriend along the way.

I thought he was getting death ...

But I can imagine one scenerio where 1 or 2 mentioned that he could appeal the carrying out of the death sentence and put it off for years ...

While he was treated nice on death row ..

So they went for something certain where he might suffer a bit more ...

less comfortable digs etc in a regular prison cell/situation...

He’ll be killed in prison and not because of some sense of justice by the other psychopathic felons. Because he’s a dumbass.

When this rectal vent gets to the big house, it will still be a death penalty.

Hopefully he'll get an extra helping of meatloaf.

“I tend to think life without parole may be the harsher punishment”

Wrong, this is a myth. After a time these wretched people adapt to captivity. They develop friendships, pursue hobbies and interests. Many even find crazy women to marry them. In short, they have lives. Meanwhile the victim’s families have to endure the reality that the monster who killed their loved one is alive and adjusting to a life behind bars

This puke murdered children. I surmise he’ll get his when in prison. He’s going to live in abject fear to his very last day.

It is truly life without parole. Meaning torture for life or in reality it could be a death sentence anyhow. Baby killers are not very welcome alive in prison.

It's a good thing this is in Florida and not New York, or the judge would sentence him to time served.

When I was younger, I was in favor of the Death Penalty because I could think of no worse punishment than to be locked in a cage for the rest of one’s life.

Now that I am older, I am in favor of Life without Parole because I can think of no worse punishment than to be locked in a cage for the rest of one’s life.

Isn’t it funny how a little perspective changes one’s attitude?

Yeah but he’ll be where he should be ...

For the death penalty he should be dead soon but he wouldnt be years from now ...

No closure for those poor parents in that case ...

Either way they are without their precious children ..

Marking every milestone without them

Today he would have graduated from high school

Today she would have been 21

Today he should have been here to celebrate his grandparents 50th and been part of the family photo ..

Today she would have been 30 probably married to her high school sweetheart with beautiful children of her own (our grandchildren we’ll never have)

Ive never lost a child or grandchild like this but Im sad at the thought of the lose for these parents ...

When you think of the torture which will go on and on theres no punishment other than from God that would fit ...
