Mars has no magnetosphere, so even if somehow a microbe spontaneously assembled itself, it would probably have been pretty quickly obliterated by cosmic radiation.

I was going to post the same thing. A strong Magnetic field is vital for a planet to have an atmosphere, as well as protecting life from solar radiation.

When you look at all the things necessary for life, and the low probabilities of those things happening in the same place, I would not be surprised if we are the only living things in this vast universe
