Liz Truss under pressure as three Tory MPs publicly call for her to quit - and Labour demand she faces parliament

The prime minister is facing calls to resign from within her own party just six weeks after entering Number 10, following the economic turmoil in the wake of the mini-budget.

Tory MPs Crispin Blunt, Andrew Bridgen and Jamie Wallis have all publicly stated they believe she should resign, as Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer accused Ms Truss of being "in office but not in power".

The Daily Mail reported that Tory MPs will try to oust Ms Truss this week, with more than 100 ready to submit letters of no confidence.

It comes after the PM dramatically ditched a major chunk of the mini-budget and sacked Kwasi Kwarteng as chancellor, replacing him with Jeremy Hunt, in a bid to restore credibility.

The new chancellor has signalled that the country could be facing a package of tax rises and spending cuts, in a move that would make a complete reversal of Ms Truss's promised economic vision.

Truss got the job promising tax cuts but did a 180 turnaround in weeks.

That has to be fairly infuriating.

If she’s there for more than a hundred days, it’ll surprise me. Course, the possibility of Johnson’s return is a bigger shock.

Apparently the chancellor she just sacked said repeatedly to her, DON’T cut taxes for the richest while inflation is killing middle and lower income families far above the benefit of any smaller cut - the optics would be disastrous.

And she overrode him.

Worse, she planned that tax cut for the richest with NO spending cuts. In effect it stank of “soak the poor to reward the rich” while maintaining socialist spending plans.

And finally she’s triggered a civil war in her own party.

Damn right she should be sacked. The last time the Tories did something this stupid, they lost three elections before regaining credibility.

King Charles should continue diplomatically staying out of the fray, although he probably has his own opinions about Truss.

Interesting that the UK just decided to end their 2 year price cap on energy bills early.

It will end in April now.

The UK has Deep State, too.

What they don’t have is a Trump.

I said from the beginning “don’t go with the lady”. But they did that. They are not going to find another Iron Lady. Margaret Thatcher was one in a million.
