Russian recruits are 'pure cannon fodder': Hundreds of thousands of Russian men continue to flee to avoid the mobilization.

Putin’s partial mobilization continues to look like a disaster. There are reports that some of the new recruits are being sent to the front lines in Ukraine with little or no training or equipment. Mobilized soldiers and their families provide their own equipment and even medical supplies before they ship out.

A half-dozen Russian soldiers talk about being shipped to an area of intense fighting in eastern Ukraine just 11 days after their mobilization. Asked about his shooting practice, a bearded conscript says, “Once. Three magazines.”…

Elsewhere, scores of relatives of freshly drafted Russian soldiers crowd outside a training center, passing items through its fence to the recruits — boots, berets, bulletproof vests, backpacks, sleeping bags, camping mats, medicine, bandages and food.

“This is not how it’s done,” a woman named Elena told the news outlet Samara Online. “We buy everything.”

A UK specialist in the Russian military says the new recruits are being treated as cannon fodder with predictable results.

“They are giving them at best basics and at worst nothing and throwing them into combat, which suggests that these guys are just literally cannon fodder,” said William Alberque, a specialist in the Russian armed forces and the director of the arms control program at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, a research organization based in London…

“The result of the mobilization is that untrained guys are thrown onto the front line,” Anastasia Kashevarova, a military blogger who has supported the war, wrote in an angry post, one of several such broadsides.

“Chelyabinsk, Yekaterinburg, Moscow — zinc coffins are already coming,” she added. “You told us that there would be training, that they would not be sent to the front line in a week. Were you lying again?”

Last week the BBC got hold of a phone message left by one of the conscripts describing the conditions and how he wound up in a hospital in Crimea.

“The first day we arrived [at the front], without having ever used a gun, we were deployed in an assault group with only two grenade launchers – we were pure cannon fodder. I had to read a manual on how to use [the grenade launchers]. On the third day, we retreated, spent the night, then advanced and took positions in the trenches.

[The Ukrainians] had taken up their positions some 200 metres away from us and began to storm us. Drones were dropping [grenades?] on us, one after the other. I was [injured]. We were shooting at them for another hour, but they were already only 50 metres away. We had no cover, the armoured vehicle that was covering us burned down, the tank burned down. During a quieter moment, I ran, corpses all around me. I heard a mortar-launched bomb fly by. I don’t know how I got out of there.”

The situation is grim enough that even on state media there is discussion of the lack of training and supplies for conscripts. As usual, Julia Davis has the video. If you watch to then of this one you’ll see a yelling match over whether the government is handling this well and one guest finally concludes “The government s**t its pants.” Again, this is on Kremlin-run TV so the one thing you won’t hear is the name of the person responsible for these decisions. Putin is never criticized.

Meanwhile in Russia: Tempers fly, as not everybody is happy with the government's failure to properly equip the troops, leading to proposals to cancel the New Year's festivities and spend the money on the military. One pundit concludes: "The government sh*t its pants." pic.twitter.com/vBAUIcsAfz

Rather than become cannon fodder, they can surrender.

I’ll say it again, ignore all this BS.

Look at the daily war map, and not from the U.S. and British propaganda machines.

USSR had a relatively large population in WW2 and absorbed enormous losses. Their population along with General Winter and their advantage of being able to retreat long distances enabled them to win the war. It was much the same during the Napolenic invasion.

Now Russia has a relatively small population, smaller than Bangladesh. They are on the offense and the don’t have the same advantages as they once had on defense.

Russia is the largest country by area and should be worried about defending Siberia. Defending Siberia would require long supply lines especially when they are tied up in the West. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chinese are waiting for the right pretext and opportunity.

There’s no honor among theives

More propaganda. This pure projection. Tens of thousands of Ukrainians have been, knowingly, thrown into the meat grinder in this war in offensives that have been conducted solely to get PR wins.

Army draft offices will close in Moscow from Monday as the Kremlin’s quotas for recruiting reservists to fight in Ukraine have been met in the capital, city mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced.

“Assembly points for mobilized people will close on October 17, 2022, at 2:00 pm,” Sobyanin said on his website.

He said “the task of partial mobilization” – announced just over a month ago – had been “completed in full” in the city.

Sobyanin said that call-up papers sent out in Moscow were no longer valid. He did not say how many Muscovites had been called up.

The mayor’s announcement came three days after President Vladimir Putin promised to complete his mobilization drive “within two weeks.”

hundreds of thousands? yet we never see them.

they wouldn’t need to show their faces, so that isn’t an excuse.

More propaganda.

Directed at who? The overwhelming majority of Americans don't care about this war and aren't reading or viewing propaganda from either the Russia supporters or the Ukraine supporters.

Meanwhile, Kiev has been getting pummeled by cheap ( $5K- some sources quote as low as $1K apiece) the cheaper ones presumably the “ dummy”
(decoy) Iranian kamikazee Drones. 200,000 reportedly sold to Russia.

Much video on non western news of soldiers and civilians by the hundreds using rifles trying to take them down. All over Ukraine. There is no defense against these cheap drone swarms.

Some defense experts state the Iranian models are inexpensive copies of the Russian Geranium Kalishnakov drones. The Russians sold the Iranians the initial copyright manufacturing rights years ago and they engineered them to be ultra cheap and easy to manufacture in huge numbers. Iran has long been known to have developed superior drone swarm tactics.

We shall see, of the estimated 4-7000 unleashed on Ukraine in the past few days, I am sure some will be recovered and examined.

I find it amusing NATO is sending billions of equipment to the Ukies, but outrage is expressed when Iran sends a fraction to Russia….and yes, those cheap Iranian drones are performing quite well, especially in swarm mode.

—”I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chinese are waiting for the right pretext and opportunity.”

They are waiting and probably not going kinetic.

A recent article on the Chinese–Russian border called it a suitcase invasion.
As the Chinese businessmen set up shop.

As the Russian economy sinks they will come to terms with an adjustment in the border.

Cheaper to purchase their land than pay for the ammunition... An offer the Russians cannot refuse.

Update for Russian Ops vs. Ukraine for October 17, 2022

- Russian forces are closing in on Bakhmut city - with even the Western media noting the inevitability of Russia’s victory there;
- Ukrainian offensives are grinding to a halt - whatever additional gains they make will be temporary and inevitably reversed as Russia prepares what appears to be a major offensive of its own;
- Western media is depending heavily on propaganda to paper over severe weapon and ammunition shortages in Ukraine and the implications it has on Kiev’s fighting capacity;
- The US is lashing out with an increasingly desperate tone as nations around the globe refuse to subordinate themselves and their nation’s interests to US foreign policy objectives - India being among them;
