Clarity of thought requires that complaints as to the merits of a particular foreign policy or action must be distinguished from legal and moral issues.

Moreover, like it or not, by default the US often has to lead. Whether in a street fight or in a crisis abroad, the big, strong kid gets looked to for leadership. The big strong kid in the world these days is the United States. And as in a street fight, even if you would prefer to stay out, one tends to get drawn in when your friends need your help.
