Before that, in the 1970s it was a constant drumbeat of
THE COMING ICE AGE caused by pollution caused by US!

A coming cooling (even ice age!) is partially correct but not for the reasons they stated.
We are currently in an Ice Age - the Quaternary. A geologic age defined by cyclic continental glaciations (ice ages). The last one ended something like 15,000-20,000 years ago. We’ve been enjoying a warming lull since then. That will end, someday the ice sheets will come again. Until then there will be ups (Greek\Roman & Medieval Warming periods) and downs (1200 BC cooling, Dark Age cooling and Little Ice Age 1300 - 1850). We now seem to be going into a cooling trend. Let’s hope it’s just that and not the end of the lull!
And Man has nothing to do with it!
