Ammon Bundy Is Quitting The Militia Movement After Breaking With Trump On Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric [2018]

"The vast majority seemed to hang on to what seemed like hate, and fear, and almost warmongering, and I don't want to associate myself with warmongers."

For more than six years Ammon Bundy and his family amassed hundreds of followers and supporters willing to pick up a gun at a moment's notice and rally to their side for a confrontation with the federal government.

Bundy led two armed standoffs against the feds in Nevada and Oregon, and his family quickly became the face of a growing militia movement, bringing a national spotlight to armed groups eager for a conflict with what they believed to be an overreaching government.

The militia groups, with members holding a mix of right-wing, anti-government, and conspiratorial views, had been growing since 2008 thanks to their heavy use of social media and binding opposition to then-president Barack Obama. The standoffs in 2014 and 2016 made the Bundy family, including Ammon, leading figures in the movement.

So when he logged on to Facebook last week to speak to his supporters in defense of the caravan of Central American migrants gathered at the southern border, a frequent target of President Trump, he figured he'd face some criticism.

"To group them all up like, frankly, our president has done — you know, trying to speak respectfully — but he has basically called them all criminals and said they're not coming in here," Bundy said in the video. "What about individuals, those who have come for reasons of need for their families, you know, the fathers and mothers and children that come here and were willing to go through the process to apply for asylum so they can come into this country and benefit from not having to be oppressed continually?"

Bundy went on, dispelling conspiracy theories that billionaire George Soros was behind the caravan or that terrorists were using the group to sneak into the US.

But the backlash from his supporters was immediate, with many repudiating Bundy for his views. Followers who had traveled to his father's ranch in Bunkerville, Nevada, in 2014 during an armed standoff with federal agents over unpaid cattle grazing fees said they regretted doing so. Others claimed Bundy was being paid by left-wing "globalists" to switch sides. Some told him they wished he was dead, or that militias had never supported his family.

Bundy was shocked by the swift reaction.

"I expected to get a decent amount of pushback, but I also believed that I could explain to them why I'd taken those positions and why," he told BuzzFeed News. "But you know, I've always had these kinds of thoughts that people were not really listening to the principles of things, that they had aligned with me for some other reasons, and that some of those [reasons] are good and some of those might not be, but this last video kind of confirmed that."

For those of you in Idaho thinking of voting for this clown, he's an Open-Border advocate.

And because of that, he does not pass the smell test!

More Bundy:

In his Facebook video, Ammon Bundy explicitly linked his religious beliefs and his family’s needs for labor, as Jones’s post points out. “We have been asked by God to help, to be welcoming, to assist strangers; to not vex them,” Bundy tells the camera. “And one way I can think immediately is, this country is in a labor crisis. Our labor workforce is so minimal that every employer will tell you that they cannot find the employees needed to fill the positions in their businesses. … And yet now we have thousands of people willing to come in here, and it appears … that they’re willing to work. … My family would love to sponsor a couple of their families.”

That's why the Negro was brought to America, to do the work the White Man didn't want to do. Bundy has a lot in common with the slave traders and slave owners of days gone by.

Trump was not a closed border advocate. He wanted controlled immigration. That does not make him an open borders advocate.

It’s ok to be pro-immigration, but you have to be mindful of the consequences of what could happen if you allowed the world into your country.

What Bundy doesn’t understand, or perhaps he does but he expects to be dead before those consequences, is that if you allow too many people into the country they can take your property and hard work away from you.

Part of being a Christian is being mindful of consequences to avoid unduly hurting your fellow man.

Exactly.

Criminals are people that break laws. Its not even necessarily a comment about them explicitly as a person.

You come here illegally and break our immigration laws and other laws, you are a criminal. By definition.

As Mike from Better Call Saul said, I’ve known good criminals and I’ve known bad cops. Bad priests, honorable thieves.

Fact is they broke the law, they are criminals by doing so. Good person otherwise, or not. No matter how Ammon wants to wadp scripture to ignore the lawbreaking. Ammon, so far removed away from the problems illegals create in Idaho, if you want to help them so much, petition to change the immigration laws. Doofus.

Bundy must know that Trump is for legal immigration.

So what Bundy is really doing is fudging the facts in an effort to hide his real reasons...an open border for cheap off the books labor.

in California cental valley the dirty little secret is that a good percentage of the farmers want chaos at the border so they can get away with underpaying farm workers. the way it works is that the farmer contracts with someone to have X worker, but that contractor has y workers in the field. the farmer off books has agreed to y workers. the Money he pays is not enough to pay for x workers. if investigated the famer pretends not to be involved with anything doing with the workers being underpaid and the contractor folds up and disappears and a designated fall guy becomes liable for what happens this all falls apart with controlled borders and legal immigration.

I knew that it had to be “off the books” labor, but I had no idea how complex it was.

Thanks for the info.

this info is over 30 years old so I don’t know if the scam is going on today. I lived in Alaska in one of the fishing villages. Processing fish at the canneries is labor intensive and when they get product in you work till the product is all processed because there is a limited time that fish will stay fresh before either freezing it or canning it...this is hard work and never enough workers. the town I lived in had 3 canneries operating and if you looked at coastal canning operations there are usually 3 operating in the summer. the canneries would hire illegals take a fake or stolen social security number on the application. the person would start working that day at the cannery. the cannery would then slow walk the paperwork sending it in as late as they could get away with it. after 6-7 weeks it would come back from the government as being a fake number and the worker would be fired, that worker would then go over to the other cannery and immediately get hired and the paperwork shuffle would happen again. the fishing season is short and after being fired from the 3rd cannery it was over. that illegal worker would come back the next year and the same paperwork shuffle would be played again.

I agree that it’s a conspiracy theory that Soros is behind the caravans. He’s happily living the ‘good life’ in NY City. The problem is that he’s FUNDING the caravans, along with the Catholic Church (I believe).

You don't know what you're talking about.

Farmer pays contractor for contract labor. Contractor pays laborer. Farmer has nothing to do with what the Contractor pays his employees...If the farmer is paying $50.00 per laborer TO THE CONTRACTOR but the contractor is only paying minimum wage, THAT'S THE CONTRACOR'S RESPONSIBILIYTY.

X's and Y's idiocy has nothing to do with contract labor.

Contract labor is contract labor. It doesn't matter if it's farm labor or construction. The same rules/laws apply.

I live in the area and what I said happens all the time and it is not all the farmers that do that. you described the law accurately and it does provide legal cover for the farmer but not moral cover. The legal cover is debatable because there have been incidents where companies have hired contractors and then were gone after for wages by those taken advantage of by the contractor when a relationship was proven between the company and the contractor

Which proves that the government sticking its nose in industry does not cure problems....it only creates a different set of problems, usually worse.
