Don't know how things work in Canada but many states' laws,and (IIRC) Federal law,says that if you're part of any kind of any kind of serious crime during which someone dies...even if you were not directly responsible for the death...you can be charged with murder/manslaughter. There's a legal name for the concept but I can't recall it.

So it could well be that this dizzy dame has that legal concept in mind when she makes this laughable comment.

Felony murder.

When someone dies because you were committing a felony. It can even be someone who was committing it with you.

So A and B go to C’s store, A points a gun at C’s face and demand that C hand over the money in the till, and C shoots and kills A, B can be charged with murder of A.
