With a female body builder in the family she has spoken of this prep time just in the change of what she eats. Then afterwards how it changes yet again. IMO bouncing the body's system around like that just seems to me to tax it and therefore over years certainly so.....especially in your 50's when things don't bounce back as when younger.

Absolutely right. Add thrill-seeking, engaging in high-risk activities, alcohol. Lots of ways to satisfy that brain craving.
I think you’re right. Although I do think we are all wired for the stability “routines” of life bring us, .......many exercise and eating routines bring with it “habits” that can be taken to extremes.
I think having a well rounded life is a matter of balancing your interests to the general pace of life....once it beomes an obsession then it’s gone to far.

I worked in cardiology and saw a number of cases like this over my career. The bodybuilders take steroids. The steroids cause the heart muscle , specifically the left ventricle to enlarge and thicken, just like the other muscles in the body. When the ventricle gets too thick, I.e. left ventricular hypertrophy, the electronic impulses whic cause the muscle to contract get confused and go into a fatal arrhythmia called V-Tach, and the person drops dead to the floor. Sorry if this is complicated, but that is exactly happens with massive use of steroids.
Sretoids also cause irrational rage and acts of violence in steroid users. Many people who use gyms regularly have had at least one disturbing encounter with these mentally and physically distorted people.
