What's DeSantis Up To? Endorses anti-Trumper John O'Dea Who Said “I don’t think Donald Trump should run again,” "I’m going to actively campaign against Donald Trump"

A growing number of prominent Republicans are warning that former President Trump should not run again in 2024 or that he will lose if he does, previewing rifts in the GOP that are likely to come into full view after the midterms.

Former Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) and former Vice President Mike Pence in recent days each indicated they’d rather see someone else on the ballot in the next presidential election.

.... Snip....

Joe O’Dea, the GOP Senate candidate in Colorado, has found traction with voters in what has been an increasingly blue state in part by distancing himself from Trump. He, too, argued earlier this month that Trump should not be on the ballot in 2024.

“I don’t think Donald Trump should run again,” O’Dea said on CNN. “I’m going to actively campaign against Donald Trump and make sure that we have got four or five really great Republicans right now. Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, Tim Scott, they could run and serve for eight years.”

... Snip...

Has the Trump-DeSantis feud finally broken the surface?

Joe O’Dea, the Republican challenger to Sen. Michael F. Bennet (D-Colo.), appeared on CNN’s “State of the Union.” He was asked whether he thought the riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, should disqualify Trump from again serving as president.

“I don’t think Donald Trump should run again,” O’Dea responded. “

Enter DeSantis, who recorded an automated voice message on O’Dea’s behalf.

“This is Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis,” it said. “America needs strong leadership and desperately. That’s why I’m endorsing Joe O’Dea for U.S. Senate. Colorado, please vote for Joe O’Dea.”

Trump’s response was terse: “A BIG MISTAKE!”

Sorry folks, but Trump has endorsed far worse than O’Dea.

To make this a stain on DeSantis is hypocritical.

Anyone else running would probably lose regardless of whom the Democrat is ...

The disillusioned Trump supporters would stay away in droves ...

He’s not up to anything hes just supporting a Republican so we can have an additional pick up and yes so he can have more political support and there is nothing wrong with that.

Opposing any Republican in the general election against against a leftist Democrat is absolutely counter productive and it’s unfortunate that Trump had to get into this.

We need the Senate in Republican control, and if this is the worst this candidate has to offer, DeSantis did okay.

Nothing has a chance of being stopped under Biden if we don’t get to 51 votes in the Senate.

Of course, Trump can’t endorse someone who hates him, but DeSantis fills the gap.

It’s even possible Trump and DeSantis have an “understanding” on this and the rest is show.

What are Republicans to now support Democrats because a Republican who won the primary doesn’t like Trump?

So Desantis should be like Cheney, supporting Democrats over the Republican primary winners?

This who article is as ignorant as the Hill reporting Democrats are 5 point ahead of Republican because Fetterwoman looked like she belongs in a nursing home with Joe.

Trump consciously endorsed the less conservative candidate over the more conservative candidate in the Pennsylvania Senate primary, solely on the grounds of perceived electability.

In Colorado, the choice is between a moderate Republican in O'Dea, and a leftist Democrat. DeSantis endorsed O'Dea, the more conservative of the two.

So as you said, Trump has no room to talk on this.

Meh, we don’t even know if DeSantis recorded that message before or after this clown made the anti-Trump comments.

Trump should big time get behind whoever is the nominee and the all conservatives and Republicans should get behind Trump if he is the nominee. Not voting makes no sense. The future of the US is at stake.

in defense of DeSantis, he endorsed a whole slew of GOP candidates all at the same time, all of whom except O’Dea are STRONG MAGA candidates ...

nonetheless, O’Dea is indeed a RINO’s RINO, and has continuously attacked Trump from day one ... we refused to vote for him for that reason ... last thing i want to vote for is another romney/murkowski/cheney/kizinger ....

If anyone needs a little brain power, it is you.

DeSantis has endorsed ONE candidate for the US Senate --- the only one promising he will not support Trump.

I guess now we know what DeSantis paid for endorsements from Paul Ryan and Jeb Bush.

Exactly!

The time for this discussion was before the primary when someone other than O’Dea could be nominated. That ship has sailed. Now DJT needs to get onboard with getting a Republican elected in Colorado or at least just shut up about the race.
