Russian’s Vladimir Putin sparked the wrath of his own people by drafting hundreds of thousands to join the war against Ukraine, and now it seems some of those men were sent not to fight the so-called “enemy” but to “snuff out” any of the Russian troops who dare to retreat.
Ukrainian intelligence on Thursday released an audio recording that appears to capture in disturbing detail the mayhem and internal rifts between Russian troops on the battlefield. In the five-minute clip, described as an intercepted phone conversation between a Russian soldier and his wife, the man says he and the other men in his unit are a comfortable distance from the actual fighting.
“They moved us back to the second line, there’s shooting somewhere ahead of us, but we’re back here for now in the trenches,” he says, before boasting that he’d been lucky and found a “Rosneft jacket covered in blood, but warm.”
“They brought the inmates here... from prison. But they led them somewhere way up front. And we’re sitting here as a retreat-blocking detachment, fuck. If someone runs back, we snuff them out.”
“What a nightmare,” his wife says.
“That’s how we have it set up. We sit on the second line, guarding the first. Behind us, there’s another line. If you go that way, you also won’t make it. So it’s impossible to run away. They shoot their own.”
“If someone goes, you need to wipe him out,” he said.
While both the purported soldier and his wife suggested they’d tried to complain about conditions with appeals to an unspecified “committee,” the man seemed convinced any kind of outcry would be futile, noting that Russian defense officials had cleverly listed him and other men in his unit as being “in training” and not on the battlefield.

But... But... They said they were only mobilizing men with previous combat experience and not just schlubs off the street.
This is probably western propaganda, and everything is fine.
I’ve heard on FR they’ll be rolling into Kiev or laying siege to Odessa any day, now, so I guess we’ll have wait and see what happens.
Correct, it appears that Russian military doctrine hasn’t really changed much since WW II, their armaments have changed but their tactics appear similar.

What the war cheerleaders don’t understand or comprehend is Russian warfare is much different than the West’s. Been that way since Russia defeated the Lithuanian hordes in 1400.
Realize Vlad is not giving up the ethnic Russian provinces, no…matter…what. Get used to it.
Standard Soviet concept used in WWII. The Soviets deployed ‘Barrage Batalions’ behind the defensive front line formations with orders to shoot any who tried to retreat. Also used in the attack with orders to fire upon those who failed to be aggressive enough in the advance.

So...what's your point? That the story is fake, and that this isn't really happening?
Or that the story is true, and just proves Putin's determination, and how "much different" Russian warfare is from the West's?

By no means is this unbelievable. The Wagner group has been reported as hiring from Russian prisons and warning the inmates of the dire disciplinary consequences of failing on the battlefield. That includes things like running away or refusing orders. From the Russian viewpoint these people are human refuse and are disposable so you put up a backstop line and shoot those that fail to perform. Don’t believe it? Read about what the NKVD did with their field commandanturas during World War II. The backstop line was real. Given the nature of the soldiers involved there is no reason to find this incredible.
Not even that...
I don’t think they had cruise missiles or jet airplanes in WW II and the T-34 tank probably would not be a match for current Russian Tanks.

If there were three lines, and each line’s job was to shoot the guys in the line ahead of them, in the event that the line ahead of them retreated, and I was in the middle line, I’d talk to the guys in the front line about joining with me to go after the guys in the back line.
Or simply walk forward and surrender.

The more things change the more things stay the same or what’s old is new again as Russia is fast running out of new stuff and breaking out more and more stuff from WWII and the Soviet Union.
Including lack of food, water, socks, winter clothes, boots without holes, body armor, helmets, PPS gear replaced with toy rubber masks and gloves for small children.
Like WWII. Which they won.
Where did you learn this information from ?? From the same media that repeatedly lied about Covid or the media that dreamed up Russia collusion or were you drafted into the Russian Army and found this out.
It could all be true, or it could all be propaganda, time will what’s real and what’s propaganda.
I wish Russia would conquer all of Western Europe. Maybe they would become Christian countries again instead of evil communist anti American/American election rigging assholes. Eastern Europeans and Russians are more similar to freedom loving Americans.
