We are all N-words now.
Nordics?
Is that with an ‘er’ , or ‘a’?
just wondering out loud tonight, no definitive conclusions....
I have never thought of the “N-word” as a “pejorative” about skin color, but as one about socially destructive behaviors, just as I have thought about describing someone as “white trash” was also a description of similar socially destructive behavior.
For centuries of time, people have developed shorthand ways of condemning behavior that doesn’t support decent manners, courtesy, responsibility, and kindness to others with negative descriptions directed toward any ethnic/racial/religious group of behaviors that appears destructive or threatening to the existing social order.
Often, this is uncalled for, cruel, and should be condemned as equally unchristian and socially destructive, and no group is exempt from criticism, not even the “WASPS” - who have been responsible for a lot of bad socially destructive behavior toward “outsiders”. (George Carlin called it right out!)
Why is this no longer acceptable, unless we are supposed to support, unquestionably, the destruction of law, order, safety, charity, kindness, and the family?
How then will we survive? I can’t see calling people who behave badly a perjorative name as “hate speech” if their behavior violates basic social norms. Why are those of us called out for condemnation when the behavior we object to is worse than our slang description of horrible behavior from any group of people?
It isn’t skin color, ethnic origin, religion, nationality, or ideology we are “naming” with shorthand words, but bad behaviors that are dangerous and unproductive. What is wrong with that?
I will probably regret posting my thoughts on this because so many people are worried about the wrong things these days. Everything is upside down and backward, as I see it.
Are we living the Matthew Arnold poem “On Dover Beach”? It seems so at this point.

Only black people can use that word.
