Russia is planning to retreat from the city of Kherson and play it off as a civilian evacuation, Western officials said today.
Putin's troops are in the advanced stages of preparing for the retreat, the officials said, having moved conscripts into the city to cover the backs of the fleeing soldiers and beefed up defences on the other side of the Dnipro River.
While no final call has been made, officials believe Russian commanders have decided that Kherson 'is not worth defending' and that fleeing to better positions across the Dnipro will improve their chances of holding on as winter falls.
They spoke as footage emerged from Kherson showing a Russian flag that has been flying over city hall for months has suddenly disappeared.
Meanwhile Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, head of Russia's central military district now thought to be responsible for defences in Donbas, has 'probably' been sacked.

Since this 3 day war is now in its 9th month and the Russians keep losing ground, I believe the world is more likely seeing the Russian military of 2021 as a Potemkin military.
Are Russkies still going with that lie? I haven't seen them say it for awhile, and the IAEA inspected Ukrainian positions and confirmed there is no evidence of any preparation to use a dirty bomb.
Russians will gladly give up ground knowing they can retake it just to continue the process of destroying Ukrainian manpower and military hardware Ukraine can NOT afford to lose.

Please cite this "disinformation". It seems every prediction so far of Russian mass retreats has come true. Russia has been in retreat with Ukrainians attacking since July, with the Russkies having almost no advancement anywhere.
Right now there are videos of Ukrainians filming empty checkpoints in Kherson. There are videos of Russian soldiers looting the art museums and destroying infrastructure as they apparently leave. Something is obviously going on. Either they're giving up half the city or the entire thing in the very near future.
That's the ticket, vatnik. The Russians victoriously retreat while the Ukrainians advance in panic. Bagdad Bob would be proud.
