The operator of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, Nord Stream AG, announced Wednesday that, after an initial inspection, it has found man-made craters in the seabed near a pipeline damaged by the September explosions. "Technogenic craters with a depth of 3 to 5 meters were found on the seabed at a distance of about 248 meters from each other. The section of the pipeline between the craters is destroyed and the dispersion radius of the pipeline fragments is at least 250 meters," the company detailed in a statement.

That one short shot into the pipe looks to show the broken pipe bent outwards, as if from an explosion inside the pipe.

running exploses down inside the pipe using a pig is one possibility that was raised early on.
That would point to Russia.

"That one short shot into the pipe looks to show the broken pipe bent outwards,
as if from an explosion inside the pipe."One of my first thoughts was an demolition pack could have been inserted
upstream for remote or more likely, a timed explosion.

Would it not have to be done at an unpressurized or ‘air-locked’ location?

Or a methane hydrate plug.
My understanding is that they form naturally when the gas isn’t flowing, and can yield massive explosions if they aren’t thawed very carefully.

A pipeline running at nearly 3,200 psi isn’t going to leave craters when the pipe fails?
Yeah, ok....
San Bruno for example was only operating at 386 psi and blew a crater 167ft long, 26ft wide, and 40ft deep.

I've heard that can happen. The natural gas in those pipelines can form 'ice' in localized areas that can lead to over-pressurization of the system.

You should look up photos of gas pipeline failures. The pipe is bent outwards due to the pressure within the pipe when it fails.

I hadn’t realized that nat gas pipelines operated at such high pressure. 3200 lbs/ sq. In. is quite a bit higher than the pressure in my auto tires

About a 1/4 of the way down there is avideo which starts out showing the surface after the explosion, then 20 seconds in is a short segment showing the broken pipeline.

Well, that’s only part of the story. What’s the water pressure on the pipe from the outside? I think the pressure differential is what’s really important.
