In vehicle software we were always bumping up against available processing and memory resource capacity so compact code was a must. Not sure how these mega platforms work.

Side effects, readability? Code should be blindingly obvious to read and understand.

The current generation counts on blindingly fast processors, increasingly sophisticated compilers and plug-in modules to replace the former need for tight, efficient code.
