Huge DeSantis win shows presidential punch
Axios ^ | November 9, 2022 | Zachary Basu

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' resounding victory over Democrat Charlie Crist — fueled by the strongest GOP showing in Miami-Dade County in two decades — has cemented his position as a 2024 presidential contender.

Why it matters: The big, broad win is a massive show of force against former President Trump, whose blessing propelled DeSantis to office. DeSantis is the first GOP governor to win Miami-Dade County, a Democratic stronghold, since Jeb Bush's re-election in 2002. He did so by double digits.

"Never seen a race that big in my history of working in Florida politics. That's an absolute bloodbath," a Florida-based Democratic consultant told Axios' Alexi McCammond.

(snip)

The big picture: DeSantis' 2024 stock has steadily risen over the past year, even as Trump has grown more serious about his presidential plans — now believed to be imminent — to declare a formal comeback bid.

DeSantis' campaign and aligned political committee raised an astonishing $200 million for his re-election, with $90 million left burning a hole in the bank as the term-limited governor contemplates his next move. GOP megadonor Ken Griffin told Politico this week he would back DeSantis in 2024, saying "it's time to move on to the next generation."

That’s what happens when you eradicate vote fraud and have fair and honest elections.

Damn shame Florida is the exception not the rule.

He won by 20 points. You think he’s not a contender?

Trump is done.

Trump’s candidates could not beat the early, mail-in voting because they were all smeared in the first months of the campaign. Their opponents refused to debate. Trump did not sufficiently fund his own endorsed candidates. McConnell funded Trump’s senate candidates with 10x the money Trump spent, despite Trump’s PAC having raised more than McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund. So, do not blame McConnel.

This allowed the Dems to smear our candidates early and cement those early, mail-in votes, ensuring their victory.

DeSantis turned Florida more red than ever by actually governing as a conservative, taking actions to ensure integrity and leading the nation during the pandemic.

Trump needs to retire his ego and enjoy his billions and Melania.

I fear Trump will not. He is the jilted lover who wants revenge. If Trump gets the nomination, he loses in 2024. If Trump loses the nomination, he will undermine our nominee causing us to lose 2024.

Axios is trying so hard.

DeSantis has openly said he will not run for president in 2024 if Trump runs.

Trump did a good job of that on his own.

Yes, we do need to get far more states to adopt the strict election integrity laws Florida has.

Florida makes it incredibly difficult to cheat and they know the results that evening - not days or weeks later.

After getting embarrassed in 2000 and again a few more times by obvious Democrat election fraud in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Florida cracked down on the election fraud and cracked down hard.

DeSantis has openly said he will not run for president in 2024 if Trump runs.

After last night's debacles, especially in Pennsylvania, that calculation has suddenly changed.

They don’t have to bother. Trump’s insane attack on what he perceives as his GOP rivals (including DeSantis) just two days before the elections did that for them.

I honestly think Trump’s sudden irruption into the process confused voters and in fact did dampen the turnout for some GOP candidates, as well as reminding people who never liked him anyway that he was still out there and still going to be attacking other GOPers on a very personal basis.

I think the GOP once again will end up fighting over who is pro-Trump, who is anti-Trump or who simply doesn’t want to get involved with either side but actually thinks we should just concentrate on policy and positions.

Sorry, but Trump can’t win in the former United States. DeSantis has a slight chance to win the Presidency. Face reality people. And Some of the blames lies with massive immigration, legal and illegal. But the primary culprits are your urban White neighbors.

If Trump gets the nomination, he loses in 2024.

With the Communists controlling elections, it doesn't matter who the GOP nominee will be...the communists will "win" again.

I think this election will mark the pivot by the base away from Trump. I think it will happen very fast. DeSantis bandwagon will be filling up quickly.

I’m two years when he loses the presidential election we will be free of trump. It’s just too bad we will have to wait until 2028 for a legit shot at the White House.
