KFC has apologized after its phone app sent a notification to German customers suggesting they treat themselves to fried chicken and cheese to commemorate the pogrom that preceded the Holocaust, German media reported on Thursday.
"Commemoration of Kristallnacht — Treat yourself to more soft cheese and crispy chicken. Now at KFCheese!," read the message sent on Wednesday.

According to other sources their marketing is driven by a ‘bot’ which looks at calendar days of note.

“its phone app sent a notification”
Apps don’t just do things on their own. Someone programmed the app to do this.

Very much doubt this was a mistake.

In related news, back in the 1960s Pepsi tried to break into the Chinese beverage market. They used as their slogan “Come alive with Pepsi!” This was translated into Chinese as “Pepsi brings your ancestors back from the dead!”
So Pepsi tried again. Instead they went with “Come alive! You’re in the Pepsi generation.” This was translated into Chinese as “Resurrect! Your body will be made of Pepsi!”
Disclaimer: Pepsi has never confirmed or denied this story. It’s a hoot, regardless.
