I've always thought that but hoped people in his sphere, like say Don Jr, would inform him but maybe he thinks only the Big Names are important.

In politics, "perception is reality", and the only thing that is important is what the general population, especially the electorate, perceive. Outside of niche web forums, "obscure websites" have little impact on people's opinions.
