Across the US, a return to democratic order. Will it last?

WASHINGTON (AP) — There was no violence. Many candidates who denied the legitimacy of previous elections lost and quietly conceded. And few listened when former President Donald Trump tried to stoke baseless allegations of electoral fraud.

For a moment, at least, there’s a sense of normalcy in the U.S. The extremism that has consumed political discourse for much of the last two years has been replaced by something resembling traditional democratic order.

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu, a Republican, said midterm voters were concerned about Biden’s leadership but that they had a more urgent message: “Fix policy later, fix crazy now,” he told CNN.

Yet the “crazy” that consumed Sununu’s party this fall still looms.

Even as many GOP leaders blame Trump for elevating weak and extreme candidates who struggled, the former president sought to undermine the midterm results from his low-profile social media platform. Trump posted no fewer than 20 messages since Tuesday afternoon raising the false prospect of electoral fraud in the 2022 election, increasingly focusing on Nevada and Arizona as vote counting there continued into the weekend.

A leading progressive, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, who has raised concerns about far-right threats to democracy since before his own 2020 presidential bid, suggested that the GOP has begun to act more rationally.

“I think that a number of Republicans now understand that Trump’s desire to undermine American democracy is not only wrong, but it is bad politics,” Sanders told the AP. “For all of those people who want to maintain the lies that Trump actually won in 2020, Tuesday was a bad day for them and a good day for the rest of the American people.”

Democrats have bastardized the term “democracy”.

““Fix policy later, fix crazy now,” he told CNN.”

We can’t “fix crazy now” so long as the deep state is in charge. They are crazy and they run the whole show.

"Steve Peoples is the principal political writer at The Associated Press. He is transcendently known for being the wife of Zain Asher, a Nigerian-British reporter at CNN International. His other half Zain hosts CNN’s global news show ‘One World with Zain Asher’, making her one of the outstanding columnists in the field"

Can someone make a gender call on the author from Associated Press? I can't figure this one out?

“Fix policy later, fix crazy now!”
Right on the money.

There are a whole lot of unresolved GOP-friendly issues that are going to remain unresolved so long as the Rick Scott types are in ascendancy.

I’m not going to blame Trump, because he did our country a solid service in the face of unbelievable blowback over the smartest-people-in-the-room’s very unsmart groupthink trade policy that very nearly (and may still have) destroyed this nation. He fell into some sort of trap, no doubt due to persecution of historic proportions! Yes, he needs to retire, and absolutely positively NO, he does not need to take all the blame, leaving all the lying slimey evil conspirators in place!

I AM going to blame the cohort of crazies that decided that an abortion policy position with an 8% approval was to be the GOP’s headliner policy for this election season, and who seemed to think that high energy prices would induce the country to give them a mandate to do all sorts of incredibly unpopular things. Seriously, who was the genius who decided to also go after Social Security?!

I blame everyone who forgot that the job of our politicians is to represent the will of the people!

The Modern Electioneering Process of “Ballot Submission Assistance” is Taking Center Stage

"Republican politicians will support any process, including mass mailout ballot distribution and collection, regardless of its corrupt status, that will eliminate what they define as the problem within their club."

There is a sense of dread that we are living under a criminal cabal too powerful to destroy. Like Russians under communism, we are suddenly slaves to those who control government.
This is the reality that is sinking in. There are no rights. There is no freedom. There is only oppression and growing poverty.

And few listened when former President Donald Trump tried to stoke baseless allegations of electoral fraud.

To regain a little of its lost credibility, the AP should explain why they are claiming that the allegations are "baseless."

The allegations of electoral fraud are serious enough to warrant attention.

The evidence of electoral fraud is massive. Ignoring the growing volume of evidence erodes the reputation of the AP.
