First, thank God that Garland isn’t decorating the SCOTUS.

Second, Garland will be impeached for lots of reasons - including setting up a special council for political reasons. He said it out loud.

The DOJ must be reined in.

T may be a good time to point out that Mueller’s team were all die hard Democrats. I expect the same hard left DOJ lawyers to man this fiasco.

Real President Trump lives in their brains rent free. Their fear and arrogance will only keep Trump as the main player on the political battle field.

Should we be concerned that this newly appointed Special Prosecutor (Jack Smith) that the AG just sicked on Trump, looks just like Hunter Biden?

From the article, “Former presidents are not automatically protected from federal prosecution.”

The election of 1800 was incredibly bitter between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. It was also the first peaceful transition of power in history between opponents whose philosophies were different and who hated each other. Both Jefferson and Adams understood the importance of that moment in time. The Republic survived because Adams surrendered power peacefully and Jefferson did not seek to prosecute Adams for any perceived or real crimes.

Jefferson and Adams set the tone which was followed through successive transfers of power. Nixon in 1960 had strong reason to believe the election had been stolen from him in Illinois and Texas. Nixon chose not to contest election because he believed him doing so would damage the nation.

Nixon later won the presidency in 1968 and was impeachment proceedings were initiated against him by the opposing party during his second term. He resigned before he was impeached because members of his party told him they would vote against him in a Senate trial which would result in his removal from office. Nixon resigned and his successor Gerald Ford pardoned him a few days later. Ford did this to save the nation from the spectacle of federal and state court cases against him. Ford did this knowing the pardon might cost him the election in 1976, which it did.

George W. Bush likely had reason to formally investigate Bill Clinton once Clinton left office. There was strong evidence Clinton had allowed an aerospace company to transfer US rocket guidance technology to China after Loral (the company) had made major donations to his campaign. There were also reports considerable money had been funneled from Chinese government sources to his campaigns. Bush elected not to prosecute his predecessor, continuing the tradition of peaceful transition.

While Al Gore contested the Florida vote in the election of 2000, once the recount was complete, and after the Supreme Court ruled on the issue, he backed down.

While Donald Trump considered and asked Vice President Pence to undertake some procedural measures with respect to the Electoral College count, Pence chose not to do anything other be the ceremonial overseer of the count. Once the count was complete, Trump continued to complain about the integrity of the count, but took no measures to stay in office and the transition to Joe Biden on inauguration day was peaceful, and like the Adams to Jefferson transition in 1800, occurred without the presence of the outgoing president.

The raid on Mar a Lago and the special prosecutor Garland has appointed flies in the face of over 200 years of tradition regarding transitions. There have been presidents who were corrupt, and likely some who committed crimes while in office. However, it has been recognized by generations of politicians that if presidents prosecute their predecessors, it opens up the potential for tyranny the founding fathers tried to avoid when they wrote the Constitution.

It is highly unlikely the American people would consider prosecuting, convicting and imprisoning Trump for taking some papers from the National Archives would be appropriate for the current administration. After all we have the precedent of Hillary’s email system when she was Secretary of State. When the Clintons left the White House in 2001 they took some of the White House furnishings and were compelled to return them. The circumstances associated with Barack Obama taking his papers to Chicago, and storing them under his own control instead of leaving them with the National Archives, also suggests a prosecution of Trump for holding onto papers is petty, vindictive, and mean spirited.

The real issue is going to the the indictment and prosecution of Trump for January 6. They are going to make a case he attempted to thwart the election and overthrow the government - actually committed sedition or treason. Pence may be willing to testify Trump directed him to interfere with the orderly counting of the Electoral Votes. Few Americans have read the Constitution, much less understand its provisions and nuances. The media and political spin will convince many Americans Trump committed treason. The Democrats will be united in voicing this message as will the media. A number of Republicans will also be on board - Liz Cheney, Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Mitt Romney as well as the House Republicans who voted for impeachment and the seven GOP Senators who voted to convict Trump. It is possible General Milley and some cabinet officers will openly speak out against Trump’s alleged treason.

Trying, convicting and imprisoning a former president, particularly one who is running for election, for political and process “crimes” will change the electoral process forever. The fact the Democrats have decided to take this action suggests they wish to further inflame and divide the country as well as discourage future office seekers from challenging the status quo.

Great post - regarding Pence testifying, “Pence: ‘Congress has no right to my testimony’ about Jan. 6”
https://thehill.com/homenews/house/3738915-pence-congress-has-no-right-to-my-testimony-about-jan-6/

although that statement may be a moot point given his book came out the other day that may say it for him

as to your final point, “discourage future office seekers from challenging the status quo.” I completely agree. That has been the Dem’s game since 2008.

Garland needs a special counsel investigating his little Nazi ass. Why did Sessions have to recuse himself but nothing but crickets for Merry Garland? That bass turd should have recused himself over a year ago.

“Great post - regarding Pence testifying, “Pence: ‘Congress has no right to my testimony’ about Jan. 6””

I was aware of Pence’s statement when I wrote about Pence testifying. My take on events is Trump’s arrest and takedown is part of a script. The story will play out over the next year and the timing is calculated to have maximum impact on the electorate for the 2024 elections. Indicting, arresting, trying, and convicting Trump today will not produce a landslide in 2024 for Newsom (or whoever else the Dems run) and Democrat candidates for Congress, governorships and state legislatures. The plan is to destroy the conservative movement completely and create a situation where the left has absolute power.

Pence made his statement about not testifying and the reaction from the press and Dem politicians was unnaturally subdued. He didn’t get the Steve Bannon treatment. Why? The timing is early for Pence’s ultimate treachery.

Attorney General Garland just appointed a special prosecutor to investigate Trump. This is another death by 1000 cuts strategy that will play out throughout the year 2023 while Trump is trying to campaign.

The investigation will be conducted in secret but will be distracting to Trump and the electorate, not to mention costly with respect to legal expenses for Trump, many of his key advisors, former members of the Trump administration, and others. While this investigation, and related grand juries, do their work there will be many carefully timed selected leaks to poison the jury pool and the electorate. It will be Russia collusion on steroids. The Trump criminal investigation will be the headline news story everyday instead of the economy, the border, rampant crime, or the drug crisis. Aggressive reporters will shove microphones in the face of GOP l politicians demanding a comment on the latest leak. These politicians will tire of constantly being personally hounded by the media and increasingly concerned about being tied to Trump if he goes down. It will be hell for any politician publicly supporting Trump. Many will take the easy way out and minimally declare it is time to move on.

Pence may be the key player in the trial of Donald Trump in early 2024, just as the real campaign season is beginning. Assume the government arrests Trump in late 2023 for a long list of process crimes, conspiracy and treason. Drag him in front of a federal judge in handcuffs on national television. Demand no bail and lock him up. Leak photos to the press of him in an orange jumpsuit behind bars. Everyday run negative stories about his behavior in jail including the photos. Keep him physically off the campaign trail. Place a gag order on Trump and his legal team. Meanwhile government prosecutors continue to leak to the press.

Hold the trial in March, April and May when the decisive primaries are being run. Drag the proceedings out over a period of weeks while the primaries are underway. Pence said he wouldn’t testify to a Congressional committee, but he didn’t say he wouldn’t testify at a federal court trial.

Assume Pence testifies in a federal criminal court trial that Donald Trump told him to reject electoral votes from several states. The trial is in DC, a very leftist judge is presiding, and the jury is comprised of partisan Trump haters. The jury convicts Trump of several crimes including sedition and treason. The penalty for treason is death. No matter if he receives a death sentence, or decades in prison, he will be immediately incarcerated pending appeal. The appeals court will not agree to an expedited appeal trial and the Supreme Court will refuse to hear an appeal until it has gone through the appeals process. Checkmate. Trump cannot campaign or communicate with the outside world from prison.

If at this point Trump doesn’t have the primary votes to win the nomination, the GOP will be partially off the hook and the nominating process will be manipulated by insider power brokers to put a RINO in place to be the nominee, just as the insiders manipulated Biden to beat Sanders in 2020. If Trump has already sewn up the votes needed for the nomination, they will replace him as nominee citing the 14th amendment and his conviction for insurrection.

Whoever they put up to run will be tainted by the circumstances. Core Trump supporters will be outraged and stay at home on Election Day. If only 10% of the Republican base boycotts the general election, millions of independents vote Democrat to punish the GOP, and the Dem vote is once again inflated using mail-in ballots and ballot harvesting, Democrats at all levels will take office in a landslide election rivaling 1932 when the GOP was punished for the Great Depression.

With absolute power comes tyranny. Perhaps a new Constitution, cementing the power of the central government over the people and the states will be drafted and adopted. Certainly anyone deemed a threat to the regime will be silenced and harassed if not imprisoned. Worst case there are secret trials followed by lengthy imprisonment, asset forfeiture, and in some cases execution. The economy will be restructured on a socialist model. Assets will be seized from the middle class and those wealthy citizens who dare to oppose the regime. Freedom of movement and communication will be rigidly controlled. Firearms will be taken from the people. Elections will be carefully orchestrated by the government to ensure the ruling cabal retains control. Any hint of rebellion will be detected early by constant surveillance and will be crushed without mercy. A woke utopia will replace the free republic.

There are a lot of reasons to be hopeful - the impending destruction of the GOP is #1.

But why push for meaningless impeachments?
