Turkey inches closer to invasion of northern Syria as Islamic State terror threat grows

There is significant concern that Turkey’s planned ground invasion into Syria to root out the U.S.-allied Kurds could open the floodgates for the release of thousands of imprisoned Islamic State terrorists.

Syrian Kurdish forces have incarcerated thousands of ISIS terrorists from more than 50 countries in prisons in northeastern Syrian.

Brigadier Gen. Patrick Ryder, the Pentagon’s press secretary, said Wednesday, "Recent air strikes in Syria directly threatened the safety of U.S. personnel who are working in Syria with local partners to defeat ISIS and maintain custody of more than 10,000 ISIS detainees."

Turkey recently launched air strikes targeting the Syrian Kurdish military organization—The People’s Defense Units (YPG) in Syria and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in Iraq.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared, "This is not limited to just an air campaign," adding, "We will consult with our defense ministry and general staff and decide together to which our land forces needs to contribute, then take our steps accordingly." Earlier, Turkey's defense minister was quoted by the country's media as saying the operation continues with some 326 enemy combatants killed so far.

Combating a resurgence of the terrorist movement Islamic State remains a top priority for the U.S. military. The U.S. formed an alliance with the YPG to oust ISIS, while conflict between Erdogan and the Kurdish forces in Syria may be moving from a localized conflict to a full-blown war.

Ryder noted that an "Immediate de-escalation is necessary to maintain focus on the defeat-ISIS mission and ensure the safety and security of personnel on the ground committed to the defeat-ISIS mission."

We are being fed such bull$#it about Syria. The mind boggles.

So, how is our not-so-secret secret war in eastern Syria going? Where both Turkey and Iran are doing air strikes against the Kurdish PKK/YPG/SDF training camps we are funding and running?

Supposedly we are there to keep ISIS from reforming. Actually, we are employing ISIS, rebranded now as the SDF, and they are protecting the oil fields and ensuring the oil goes where the GAE wants it to go, and not to Syria proper, which is starving under U.S. imposed sanctions.

Our presence there is actually to block the “Shia Crescent” linkup between the Mediterranean, where Russia has naval bases, and Iran, which has coasts on the Caspian Sea (as does Russia) and the Indian Ocean. Notably, the still-standing Assad regime in Damascus is secular, consisting of Alawites, Christians, Shia, and non-radical Sunnis, while the U.S. is funding and supporting the radical Sunnis, in effect, rebranded ISIS now paid with U.S. funds.

I made a video about it with George McMillan a few days ago.

Remember two years ago when this was a stabilized, peaceful, US ground troop free zone? I’m looking for significant Russian/Turkish backscratching in the area. Turkey will eventually be wooed or frightened out of NATO and into a more accommodating BRICS lite relationship with Russia.

Syria has been in a state of war for at least 11 years.
I believe it started back in 2011 as a civil war during Arab Spring. I don’t know how much of that is due to American influence (Valery Jarret, Hillary Clinton, Susan Rice and others).

I’m surprised there is anything left in Syria to be bombed.
Perhaps it’s a larger country that I had presumed.
You now have an entire generation of Shell Shocked people.

This has always been such a blessing over Islam’s 1400 years. Too busy fighting each other to bother with the rest of us. Keep fighting.
